On June 10th, in Moc Chau town, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province, in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province, organized the Conference of the Standing Committee and the Working Group of the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of the 8 provinces of the expanded Northwest region and Ho Chi Minh City in 2025.

As the Head of the Cooperation Group in 2025, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province has proactively coordinated with the People's Committees of other provinces and cities to develop, issue, and implement the Cooperation Group's plan on organizing cooperation activities for tourism development among the 8 expanded Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City in 2025.

Provinces and cities regularly coordinate, exchange information, share experiences, and support each other in promoting and attracting investment to their localities; they also develop plans to organize surveys and promote new tourism products, and connect with travel businesses to attract tourists to experience tourism.

The total number of visitors to the eight provinces of the expanded Northwest region and Ho Chi Minh City in the first six months of the year reached over 40.9 million, an increase of 4% compared to the same period in 2024 and achieving 45.92% of the annual plan. Of this total, the eight Northwest provinces accounted for nearly 22.7 million visitors, representing 55.5% of the total. Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 135,512 billion, reaching 40.34% of the 2025 plan and increasing by 9% compared to the same period in 2024.

At the conference, delegates discussed and contributed ideas to the draft plan for tourism development cooperation between the expanded Northwest provinces and Ho Chi Minh City in 2026; and the orientation for tourism development cooperation in the 2026-2030 period. The opinions focused on several key areas: the plan for cooperation between provinces after the reorganization of provincial-level administrative units; cooperation in tourism development with foreign countries; the development of new tourism products with inter-provincial linkages; coordination in promoting tourism and marketing OCOP products and local agricultural products; solutions to improve the effectiveness of tourism development surveys and linkages; tourism infrastructure development planning; and the organization of the Northwest - Dien Bien Festival in 2025...

The conference also included an exhibition showcasing tourism products and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products from eight Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City; and a Famtrip to survey and evaluate several tourism products, tourist areas, and tourist destinations within the Moc Chau National Tourist Area.
