Mai Son district has many strengths for developing sustainable agriculture.
With its existing potential, Mai Son district has implemented various solutions to build a modern and sustainable agricultural sector, increase people's income, and expand the reach of local agricultural products in the market.
Value chain integration - The key to stable output.
According to statistics, Mai Son currently possesses enormous agricultural potential with 11,500 hectares of fruit trees, including custard apples, mangoes, longan, and dragon fruit, yielding an estimated production of nearly 100,000 tons per year.
Notably, the district has been actively promoting the application of technology in production, with 5,400 hectares of fruit trees using high-tech methods and 2,700 hectares of organic farming.
In addition, over 1,600 hectares of production adhering to VietGAP standards have affirmed the commitment to food quality and safety. To date, four high-tech agricultural zones with a total area of 1,773 hectares (including two coffee zones, one custard apple zone, and one mango zone) have been recognized by the Son La Provincial People's Committee, attracting the participation of 2,333 households.

To ensure stable output and enhance the value of agricultural products, the Mai Son district government has made efforts to build and develop supply chains. Currently, there are 48 safe agricultural and aquatic food supply chains operating effectively, including 4 vegetable and fruit chains; 39 fruit tree chains (mango, custard apple, longan, pomelo, strawberry); 3 coffee and tea chains; and 2 pork chains.
In particular, an additional 391.9 hectares have joined the supply chains, bringing the total area with production and consumption contracts between businesses, cooperatives, and households to over 9,800 hectares. This figure accounts for 19.7% of the district's total cultivated land area, demonstrating the close connection with efficiently operating agricultural processing plants and facilities.
Multidimensional solutions for sustainable agriculture
Recently, the People's Committee of Mai Son district also organized a conference to seek practical solutions to promote sustainable agriculture. The focus was on restructuring the agricultural sector towards a modern, sustainable approach that is appropriate to the local reality.
In addition, it is necessary to build and strengthen agricultural production chains through close cooperation between farmers, cooperatives, and businesses. Simultaneously, develop and manage trademarks and geographical indications, and register codes and barcodes for key agricultural products to enhance brand value and traceability.
Promoting and introducing products is one of the solutions that helps bring agricultural products to consumers.
Developing product traceability software aims to ensure transparency and enhance consumer trust. Promoting and advertising products through mass media and expanding consumer markets should also be prioritized.
Furthermore, to maximize its existing advantages, Mai Son district is also considering building and implementing infrastructure investment projects to form specialized production areas for high-value agricultural products.
In addition, attracting investment and integrating capital sources from the State, credit policies, land, and supporting businesses in technological innovation, implementing production linkages, processing and marketing of agricultural products, especially the district's key products, are crucial.
