(sonla.gov.vn) On December 27, 2023, Ms. Trang Thi Xuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, chaired a workshop explaining the conditions for recognizing Moc Chau as a national tourist area in 2023.
The conference was attended by representatives from the Vietnam Institute for Tourism Development Research, leaders of the People's Committees of Moc Chau and Van Ho districts, and relevant departments and agencies.

Overview of the Conference.
At the workshop, delegates viewed a video clip and a draft presentation on the proposal to recognize Moc Chau as a national tourist area. The presentation, prepared by the Son La Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Vietnam Institute for Tourism Development Research, was presented in slide format and consisted of five parts: The necessity of proposing national tourist area recognition; The role, position, and current development status of Moc Chau as a national tourist area; Assessment of the current status of Moc Chau as a national tourist area according to the criteria for national tourist area recognition; Orientation and development plan for the national tourist area; Conclusion and recommendations.

Delegates contributed many ideas to improve the draft explanation of the conditions for recognizing Moc Chau as a national tourist area. This focused on supplementing and unifying the data for the criteria, especially those that are weak or not yet fully met; and adding explanatory images of activities related to waste collection and treatment, environmental protection, beauty services, physiotherapy, and healthcare facilities… to increase the persuasiveness of the project explanation before finalizing the dossier for submission to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Moc Chau National Tourist Area is located in the southeastern part of Son La province, spanning two districts, Moc Chau and Van Ho, with a total planned area of 206,150 hectares, according to Decision No. 128/QD-TTg dated January 25, 2019, of the Prime Minister approving the General Planning for the construction of Moc Chau National Tourist Area, Son La province, until 2030. Moc Chau National Tourist Area is one of 12 potential destinations in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, and one of 46 potential destinations nationwide, designated for development into a national tourist area with outstanding advantages in natural and cultural resources for tourism development…
Speaking at the workshop, Comrade Trang Thi Xuan requested that the units preparing the explanatory document incorporate the contributions of the delegates, revise and finalize the explanatory document for the project to recognize Moc Chau as a national tourist area, and finalize the data by December 29th. She also instructed Moc Chau and Van Ho districts and relevant departments and agencies to coordinate and guide service businesses in the area to fully meet the criteria; compile data on beauty salons, sports facilities, hospitals, signage, advertising, and publicize hotlines for receiving tourist feedback in the area… and send them to relevant departments and agencies for inclusion in the draft explanatory document. The goal is to complete the explanatory document by January 2024 and submit it to the National Tourism Administration for final review before submitting it to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for recognition of Moc Chau as a national tourist area.
