Muong Gion is a commune established by merging Muong Gion commune and Pa Ma Pha Khinh commune; the headquarters of the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of the commune are located in the former Muong Gion commune. With comprehensive investment from the national target program for building new rural areas, Muong Gion has undergone many changes; the material and spiritual lives of the people have improved.

The people of Mac Liu village, Muong Gion commune, are developing fruit tree cultivation.
Ms. Luong Thi Duyen, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Muong Gion Commune, informed: According to the 2024 assessment (of the former Muong Gion and Pa Ma Pha Khinh communes), the average per capita income reached over 45 million VND/person. Currently, the commune is reviewing and evaluating the potential and advantages of each area to have appropriate development orientations. Accordingly, the former Muong Gion commune area will focus on fruit tree cultivation, forestry, and livestock farming; the former Pa Ma Pha Khinh area will develop aquaculture, fishing, livestock farming, and lake tourism.
To support the people's economic development, the commune focuses on effectively integrating capital from national target programs to build suitable economic models; creating conditions for people to access preferential loans; and providing vocational training for rural laborers. It encourages people to change the structure of crops and livestock to increase their value; promotes intensive farming and the application of science and technology in production. It directs mass organizations to promote emulation movements such as "Farmers excelling in production and business," "Women helping each other develop the economy and alleviate poverty," and "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in business," attracting a large number of members, union members, and people to participate.
Currently, farmers in Muong Gion commune are focusing on planting and caring for 787 hectares of crops on hillside fields; 528 hectares of various fruit trees; nearly 400 hectares of cinnamon and macadamia trees; maintaining 200 fish cages; and raising 79,600 livestock and poultry. The poverty rate in the commune has decreased to over 6%; there are no longer any temporary or dilapidated houses.

Farmers in Bo Xanh village, Muong Gion commune, are developing livestock farming.
In Mac Liu village, the people have diversified their crops and livestock, increasing their income. Mr. Tong Van Kien, Party Secretary and Village Head, reported: Based on the commune's guidance, the village has encouraged residents to convert less productive corn and cassava fields to jackfruit, mango, and pear orchards; and develop livestock farming for commercial purposes. To date, residents have planted 40 hectares of fruit trees; protected over 400 hectares of forest; and raised over 300 buffaloes and cows. Only 6 households remain poor. In addition, the villagers contributed materials and labor to pave 200 meters of internal village roads with concrete; and constructed water supply and irrigation systems.
In addition, the commune has promoted and encouraged households to form four cooperatives specializing in fruit trees and aquaculture. Notably, the commune has attracted Quynh Nhai Travel Joint Stock Company to invest in and effectively develop two tourist destinations on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir: Uy Phong Bay and Da Giang Island, welcoming 15,000 visitors annually, creating jobs and boosting service businesses in the area.
In 2018, Mr. Lu Van Quy from Pa Le village collaborated with nine other households to establish the Thuy Sinh Aquaculture Cooperative. Mr. Quy reported that the cooperative currently raises over 80 cages of various fish species, including grass carp, common carp, catfish, and tilapia. Their main food source consists of cassava leaves, banana leaves, and small natural fish, resulting in flavorful and firm fish meat. The products are sold to restaurants and traders both within and outside the commune. In addition to cage farming, members also participate in fishing; the average monthly income for members reaches 4.5 million VND.
