Besides Ta Xua and To Bo peak, Bon Stream is a cloud-watching spot that has recently become popular among young people in Son La.
Suoi Bon (Suoi Bon village), located in Long Luong commune, Van Ho district, Son La province, is one of the places with pristine nature and rich cultural characteristics of the Northwest highlands. Photo: Provided by the author.
Nestled in a vast valley, surrounded by mountains, terraced rice fields, and endless hills covered in purple rhododendron blossoms, this is an ideal destination for summer travel. Photo: Provided by the owner.
Because he loves Suoi Bon so much, Quang Kien (30 years old, Moc Chau) has returned many times to enjoy the peaceful, relaxing, and tranquil atmosphere. “I’ve known about Suoi Bon for quite a while. Recently, when Moc Chau entered the rainy season, sunny days were often accompanied by drifting clouds in the early morning, so I came up with the idea of going on a cloud-hunting trip to Suoi Bon,” Kien shared. To reach Bon Stream, visitors must travel along steep and narrow mountain passes, which are especially dangerous on rainy days. “When I went, it had just rained, so it was quite slippery. If you're a confident driver, you can drive straight up; otherwise, it's safer to park at the bottom of the slope and walk,” Kien revealed. (Photo: Provided by the interviewee)
For nature lovers and those who enjoy camping and outdoor activities, Bon Stream is an ideal choice. Summer temperatures here are only around 20-24 degrees Celsius, cool and pleasant. In particular, the rhododendron hills here are a very popular check-in and "cloud-hunting" spot for tourists. The flowers usually bloom most beautifully from July to September. The hillsides around Suoi Bon village are covered with purple rhododendron flowers, combined with the morning mist and the mountain backdrop to create a hazy, dreamy landscape. Quang Kien said that Suoi Bon village is home to many ethnic groups such as the Dao, H'Mong, and Thai, with unique customs and cultural characteristics. If tourists stay overnight at homestays in the village, they will experience life like the locals: playing the flute, singing and dancing by the campfire... Photo: Provided by the interviewee
In addition, visitors can also visit nearby attractions in the area such as Shan Tuyet tea hill, Tat Nang waterfall, Chieng Yen hot spring... Photo: Provided by the owner.
“As a local, I had convenient and easy access to the area. Since there's no entrance fee to Suoi Bon anymore, my trip could be called a ‘zero-cost trip.’ But the feeling I brought back is priceless: relaxation, peace, and inspiration,” Quang Kien shared. (Photo: Provided by the interviewee)
However, he believes one of the drawbacks of Suoi Bon is the lack of environmental protection and preservation of the natural landscape: "Walking around the grassland, I saw trash in many places. I hope that tourists visiting here will also raise their awareness of maintaining cleanliness and protecting the landscape so that Suoi Bon remains beautiful and pristine." Because it has not yet been developed for tourism or commercialization, Bon Stream retains its rustic, peaceful, and intimate charm, making it suitable for those who want to reconnect with pristine nature and the indigenous culture of Northwest Vietnam. Photo: Provided by the subject.
