VOV.VN - The policy of investing in the construction of integrated primary and secondary schools in border communes has been quickly and comprehensively implemented by Son La province, receiving support and expectations from a large number of officials, Party members, and people in border communes.
The border commune of Muong Lan currently has two secondary schools, with a total of 88 classes and nearly 2,500 students. Due to the large area and fragmented terrain, the studies and daily lives of many students are affected. The proposal to build a multi-level school has brought much hope to those born and raised in this border region.
Ms. Tong Thi Quyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Lan commune, Son La province, shared: "As a native of Muong Lan, born and raised here, I also attended junior high and elementary school. The distance to school was quite far, so I have high hopes that there will be a multi-level school in the area, especially a boarding school, to make it easier for the children to attend school. This is especially difficult in the highland villages where children currently attend boarding schools far from the main school locations, particularly junior high school students."
A delegation from Son La province surveyed potential sites for building multi-level schools in border communes.
Son La province has over 270 km of border, stretching across 13 communes, which are strategically important areas for ensuring national security. According to a survey, nearly 36,000 primary and secondary school students are studying here, most of whom have to travel long distances, and their learning and living conditions remain difficult. Schools have not yet been able to meet the boarding needs of these students.
Ms. Doan Thi Thu Hang, Principal of Nam Lanh Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School in Son La province, said: "With the attention of the Party and the State, the school is very proud and honored. The children will receive more attention and benefit from more policies and regulations. This is also a motivation to contribute to the development of local education."
Following the Politburo's Notice No. 81 on the policy of investing in school construction for border communes, Son La province immediately conducted a review and assessment in all 13 border communes upon receiving the directive.
Of the 13 schools planned, 11 will be newly constructed and 2 will be renovated and upgraded. Each school will be designed to serve 1,000 or more students; with an average land area of 5 hectares per school, and equipped with modern, integrated facilities to meet the living and learning needs of boarding and semi-boarding students in remote areas. The total investment is estimated at approximately 2,700 billion VND.
Mr. Quang Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La province, said: "In implementing the Politburo's policy, the Department has, in the past period, with the responsibility of the sector, coordinated with relevant departments and actively advised the Provincial People's Committee on selecting locations to build boarding schools for border communes. In Son La, 13 communes will receive investment for construction. The Department will continue to work with other sectors to strive to achieve the policy content and steps so that in the future, students can live and study in new schools."
The new schools in the border area of Son La will contribute to the implementation of ethnic policies, improve the intellectual level and quality of human resources, create a source of ethnic minority cadres in the locality, contribute to strengthening national defense and security, and improve the material and spiritual lives of people in the border region.
