After three years of implementation, the project to register, protect, build, and implement a certification trademark management system for "Son La Macadamia" has achieved significant results, contributing to brand building and expanding the market for Son La macadamia products both domestically and internationally.

The project team conducted training on the management, use, and exploitation of products bearing the certified trademark "Son La Macadamia" for businesses, cooperatives, and people in Mai Son commune.
Having taken root and developed for over 20 years, macadamia trees are gradually asserting their potential and strengths, becoming a signature agricultural product of Son La province. The province has nearly 2,000 hectares of macadamia trees, with a yield of 5-7 tons of fruit per hectare per year. To enhance value and ensure sustainable development, in 2022, the Provincial People's Committee approved the project to register, protect, build, and implement a certification mark management system for "Son La Macadamia" products in Son La province. This project is led by CONCETTI (Consulting, Technology Transfer and Investment Company Limited).
Han Tuong Minh, the project leader, shared: The team has researched, investigated, surveyed, and assessed the current state of macadamia production and business in Son La province; collected and reviewed documents and data on socio-economic conditions and agricultural development planning of the province to build and complete the application dossier for the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark; management documents and organizational system for management after the protection certificate is granted; and a system of tools for promoting and introducing products bearing the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark.
The logo for the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark is beautifully designed with a circular shape, harmoniously combining images and text. The image of the macadamia nut makes it easy for consumers to recognize the product, while the words "SON LA MACADAMIA" are prominently displayed. Notably, the project has defined the geographical production areas for macadamia products bearing the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark, including: Quynh Nhai, Muong La, Thuan Chau, Mai Son, Song Ma, Sop Cop, Yen Chau, Moc Chau, Van Ho, and Son La. On December 27, 2024, the Intellectual Property Office granted a trademark registration certificate for "Son La Macadamia".
CONCETTI Company designed and printed 150 handbooks guiding the management and use of the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark and handed them over to the certification mark holder, the Son La Department of Science and Technology, for management and use. Simultaneously, a pilot model for managing and using the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark was implemented for Lien Viet Son La Joint Stock Company, Dat Thuy One-Member Limited Liability Company, and Tay Bac Organic Agricultural Production Cooperative.

Mr. Duong Van Dat, Director of Dat Thuy One-Member Limited Company, informed: The company currently has 70 hectares and is linked with other cooperatives to cultivate macadamia nuts on 400 hectares, with a yield of 100 tons of fresh fruit per year. Participating in the project, the company received guidance and technology transfer in production and business, including the use of identification systems, packaging, and promotional activities for Son La macadamia products. The project also connected macadamia producers in the area with agricultural product distributors in other provinces and cities, opening up opportunities for business cooperation in domestic and international markets.
The project has also enhanced the production and business capacity of certified branded products; organized training courses in localities for managers, cooperative members, and producers on intellectual property and community trademarks; and taught production techniques to meet the requirements of the certified brand.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Hoang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, assessed: The successful protection of the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark not only enhances the reputation and value but also provides a legal basis for Son La macadamia to affirm its quality. The "Son La Macadamia" certification mark is an important tool in the province's agricultural product brand development strategy, increasing product value, protecting the rights of producers, and expanding domestic and international markets.
The establishment of the "Son La Macadamia" certification mark will provide a solid foundation for businesses, cooperatives, and farmers to confidently invest in production; and for commercial and consumer businesses to confidently promote, introduce, invest in building and expanding markets, contributing to the sustainable development of macadamia cultivation in Son La.
