Over the years, Son La province has set the goal of becoming a center for high-tech agricultural development in the Northwest region, contributing to promoting green growth and sustainable development, and helping to improve the income and quality of life of its people.

Son La is pushing for deeper processing of agricultural products.
To achieve these ambitious goals, Son La province has so far recognized 9 high-tech agricultural zones with key products such as tea, dairy cattle, coffee, custard apple, mango, longan, and plum. In addition, the province is also promoting the development of brands for OCOP products from 3 to 5 stars, bringing the total number of provincial and national-level OCOP products to 241.
By 2025, Son La province aims to expand the area of crops applying VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to 13,179 hectares. Currently, the province has 5,596 hectares of crops that have achieved these certifications, with 218 planting area codes issued covering an area of over 3,142 hectares. The province has also developed 308 safe food supply chains and 29 products protected by intellectual property rights.

During the period 2021–2025, the province's agricultural sector recorded an average growth rate of 4.8% per year, with harvest value reaching 85 million VND/ha – a 67.3% increase compared to 2020. High-tech agricultural production models such as growing late-ripening plums, early-ripening longan, custard apple, and safe vegetables… helped farmers earn hundreds of millions to billions of VND/ha/year.
The People's Committee of Son La province has also been implementing a series of solutions to enhance the value of agricultural products. The focus is on strictly managing planting area codes, supporting cooperatives and farmers in applying production processes that meet VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards. The province also prioritizes promoting research, application, and transfer of high technology and environmentally friendly biotechnology into production and processing.

Agricultural production planning is also being reviewed and adjusted to prioritize high-value crops with competitive advantages. Simultaneously, the province is developing concentrated production areas applying high technology, combining organic farming with ecotourism development. For crops that do not yet meet the conditions for applying high technology, the province will focus on supporting the establishment of stable production chains with export businesses and processing plants.
