(sonla.gov.vn) On January 18, 2024, a delegation from the World Bank held a working session with the People's Committee of Son La province to discuss technical support for the project to enhance climate change adaptation and improve inclusive livelihoods in Dien Bien and Son La provinces. Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province, along with leaders from several provincial departments and agencies.

Regarding the Project to Enhance Adaptation to Climate Change.
During the meeting, the World Bank delegation presented a brief report on the proposed project and framework for creating preliminary changes to some specific policy and institutional ideas to achieve the objectives of the Project "Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation and Improving Inclusive Livelihoods in Dien Bien and Son La Provinces".

The project aims to improve transportation infrastructure, connecting the central area with other regions, between regions and tourist destinations, and along the Vietnam-Laos border. This will facilitate cross-border trade and tourism, increase the scale of goods exchange, and boost the number of visitors. Furthermore, it aims to improve the livelihoods and living standards of local people, especially ethnic minorities, by rationally exploiting and efficiently utilizing local advantages; preserving and increasing resilience to climate change; and maximizing benefits for local communities.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, gave a preliminary report to the delegation on the situation of attracting investment for socio-economic development in Son La province in recent years; and the use of capital mobilized from World Bank programs and projects. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee agreed with and highly appreciated the delegation's proposals and recommendations regarding specific mechanisms and policies related to investment, maintenance and repair of transportation infrastructure, especially rural transportation; infrastructure development; and tourism development in the province. He expressed his hope that in the future, the World Bank and other international organizations will continue to pay attention to and support Son La province in implementing socio-economic development projects.
Immediately after the working session, the delegation will survey several border roads and eco-tourism areas in Son La province as a basis for implementing the project.
