(sonla.gov.vn) On January 18, 2024, a World Bank delegation had a working session with the Provincial People's Committee on technical support for the project to enhance climate change adaptation and improve inclusive livelihoods in Dien Bien and Son La provinces. Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of a number of provincial departments, branches and sectors.

At the working session, the World Bank delegation briefly reported on the project proposal and the framework for thinking and action to create preliminary changes to some specific policy and institutional ideas to achieve the objectives of the Project "Enhancing climate change adaptation and improving inclusive livelihoods in Dien Bien and Son La provinces".

The project aims to improve transport infrastructure, connectivity between the centre and regions, between regions and tourist destinations, and the Vietnam-Laos border. Thereby, facilitating cross-border trade and tourism, increasing the scale of goods exchange, and increasing the number of visitors. In addition, improving the livelihoods and living standards of local people, especially ethnic minorities, by rationally exploiting and effectively using local advantages; preserving and increasing resilience to climate change, bringing maximum possible benefits to local people.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, gave a preliminary report to the working delegation on the situation of attracting investment for socio-economic development in Son La province in recent years; the use of capital mobilized from World Bank projects. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee agreed with and highly appreciated the proposals and recommendations of the working delegation on specific mechanisms and policies related to investment, maintenance of transport works, especially rural transport; infrastructure development; tourism development... in the province. He hoped that in the coming time, the World Bank and international organizations would continue to pay attention to and support Son La province in implementing socio-economic development projects.
Immediately after the meeting, the working delegation will survey some border routes and eco-tourism areas in Son La province as a basis for project implementation.
