The number of newly established businesses in Son La increased sharply in the first eight months of 2025, becoming a bright spot in the local economy.
According to data from the Statistics Department.Son LaAs of August 18, 2025, the province had 4,208 operating businesses with a total registered capital of nearly 90,000 billion VND. This figure reflects the gradual growth of the private economic sector, playing an increasingly important role in the socio-economic development of the locality.

In August 2025 alone, the province received and processed 518 business registration applications. Of these, 149 businesses and affiliated units were newly established, a significant increase of 152.54% compared to the same period last year. The total registered capital of these new businesses reached 830 billion VND, demonstrating a breakthrough not only in the number of businesses but also in the scale of their capital.
Besides the number of newly established businesses, the report also indicates that 19 businesses and affiliated units were dissolved in August, an increase of 111.11% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, 20 businesses registered for temporary suspension of operations, an increase of 150% compared to the same period. During the same time, 2 businesses resumed operations after a period of temporary suspension.
Compared to the same period last year, the more than 150% increase in newly established businesses is a noteworthy highlight. This shows that the business environment in Son La is improving significantly, attracting more and more organizations and individuals to invest in production and business.
The increase in new businesses contributes to expanding production scale, creating more jobs, and providing impetus for the growth of the local economy. Many newly established businesses focus on sectors linked to the province's strengths, such as agricultural processing, trade and services, community tourism, and renewable energy. This is in line with the sustainable development orientation that Son La is pursuing.
However, alongside the positive signs, the business landscape in Son La still has many dark aspects. The increasing number of businesses dissolving or temporarily suspending operations shows that many businesses are facing difficulties with capital flow, management capacity, and market expansion.
In reality, the majority of businesses in the area are small and medium-sized, with limited resilience to market fluctuations. When input costs rise and domestic and international consumer demand declines, many businesses face difficulties.
