Currently, Son La province is urgently completing preparations for the 130th anniversary of the province's founding (October 10, 1895 – October 10, 2025). Despite unfavorable weather conditions due to the influence of Typhoon No. 11 causing prolonged heavy rain, preparations are being carried out with high determination by all units, ensuring that the anniversary celebration will be solemn and successful.

Northwest Square is the venue for fairs, cultural and artistic events, and sports activities. These days, hundreds of staff and technicians from the event organizing unit; electricity and telecommunications workers; singers, artists, artisans, amateur performing arts groups, and students are concentrating intensely on completing tasks, content, and programs, ensuring the best conditions for the Anniversary Celebration.

As part of the celebrations, many exciting activities will take place at Northwest Square from October 8th to 10th. One of the most anticipated events is the Northwest - Son La 2025 Agricultural Products and OCOP (One Commune One Product) Trade Promotion Fair. With the theme "Gathering the Quintessence of Northwest Vietnam and the International Community," the fair is an opportunity to promote and connect the consumption of agricultural products and showcase the outstanding economic achievements of Son La province and other provinces nationwide.

More than 400 students from the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities also participated in the art program.
The fair will open at 7 PM on October 9th, with approximately 250 booths, and nearly 240 have already registered. A notable new feature is the expansion of international cooperation with 10 booths from 5 provinces of Laos. In addition, the fair will also feature 30 agricultural product booths from provinces and cities across Vietnam, including Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Lam Dong, Ca Mau, Thanh Hoa, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Quang Tri, and Ha Tinh. The event contributes to promoting the brand of agricultural products and OCOP products from Son La and fostering trade connections between the Northwest provinces and the rest of the country.

The highlight of the event is the Celebration of the 130th Anniversary of the Province's Establishment and the Art Program taking place at 8 PM on October 10th, with the theme "The Spirit of Son La Reaching Far with the Nation".
Mr. Pham Hong Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, informed: This is the largest art program ever, with a large-scale investment involving more than 1,000 professional and amateur performers. In particular, the program utilizes performance technology, special effects, and a modern sound and lighting system to vividly recreate 130 years of Son La's history, from the period of cultural development, Son La Prison, the Northwest Campaign to the achievements of innovation today.

Currently, stage setup is being completed urgently; the actors are enthusiastically rehearsing, ready for the dress rehearsal on the evening of October 8th. The artistic program will be broadcast live on STV channel and the digital platforms of Son La Newspaper and Radio; broadcast live on the Voice of Vietnam radio station; and rebroadcast on television channels in provinces and cities.
On October 8th, competitions in traditional sports, including tug-of-war, stick pushing, "tó mák lẹ" (a traditional game), "tung còn" (a traditional game), and crossbow shooting, will open at Northwest Square and the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center. On the same day, an exhibition of photographs showcasing the province's socio-economic development achievements will open at Northwest Square; a Thai Xoe dance festival and performances of traditional festivals and rituals of various ethnic groups will also take place. This prominent cultural event will continue throughout the year, concluding with an awards ceremony on the evening of October 10th. On October 9th, a "Best Booth" exhibition will be held.
Offering a unique cultural experience, within the Northwest Square, models of stilt houses along with mascots of Thai, Mong, and Dao girls have been erected, creating a lasting impression on visitors; at the same time, they serve as tools to promote the event, serving the people and tourists who come to visit and take souvenir photos.

As part of the celebratory activities, Son La completed and put into use many key transportation and urban projects around the Northwest Square area, such as the Pham Van Dong route, traffic route No. 4, and the project to renovate nearly 28 km of sidewalks, contributing to creating a modern and attractive appearance for the city.
Environmental sanitation was also given priority. Son La Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company beautified the landscape of Northwest Square and inner city streets by replacing flowers, trimming branches, and cleaning, ensuring a clean, beautiful, and civilized space for organizing events.

To ensure security, the armed forces proactively developed a comprehensive plan, launching a high-intensity campaign to crack down on crime, maintain public order, and ensure traffic safety. Control checkpoints operated 24/7, with 100% of officers and soldiers on duty, ready to handle any situation; providing absolute security for the series of events, accommodation areas for delegations from the central government, other provinces, and tourists, making a significant contribution to the overall success of the Anniversary Celebration.
