Son La is located in the heart of the Northwest region, sharing a border with Laos stretching over 270 km. Over the years, the Son La Border Guard has focused on building a strong all-people border defense posture; effectively mobilizing the public to participate in self-management of the border, border markers, and maintaining security and order in the border area.
The Nam Lanh Border Guard Station is tasked with managing and protecting over 25km of border line and 12 border markers, and is responsible for Sop Cop commune, comprising 33 villages and 1 residential cluster, including 6 villages adjacent to the border. Since the beginning of the year, the station has coordinated 3 bilateral patrols, 28 unilateral patrols, and conducted 190 patrols to control the area. Through these patrols, officers and soldiers have gained a thorough understanding of the area and effectively resolved incidents related to political security and social order at the grassroots level.

With the motto "focusing on the grassroots to help the people," the officers and soldiers of the Muong Cai Border Guard Post always overcome difficulties, persevere, stay close to the people, and closely coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to implement models and programs to help people in the border area. The post has sent many officers to support and assist the people in developing production; implementing many economic models, such as: developing gardens, ponds, and livestock farms at the Huoi Khe Border Guard Task Force; and a model of planting fruit trees on sloping land in Bua Hin village, Muong Hung, etc.
Lieutenant Colonel Lo Van Tuan, Political Officer of Muong Cai Border Guard Station:With the motto "3 close ties, 4 together," our unit regularly works with the local people to build models and programs for socio-economic development in the area. Through these activities, the people trust in the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and the people themselves, together with the border guards, effectively carry out the task of managing and protecting the border.
Mr. Lo Van Hoan, Muong Cai village, Chieng Khoong commune:With the help of the border guards from Post 455 during a difficult time, we were able to cultivate our fields and gardens. We had no experience in farming or growing fruit trees, so thanks to their guidance and advice, my family has now escaped poverty. We are very grateful to the soldiers.
The Provincial Border Guard Command has directed border guard posts to comprehensively implement policies and solutions to build a "people's defense posture" in border areas. They advise and coordinate with local Party committees and authorities in border areas to build a strong national defense system, a people's defense posture linked to a people's security posture, and a people's border defense posture. They strengthen propaganda and education for officers and soldiers throughout the force, and for ethnic minorities and people in mountainous and border regions, encouraging their active participation in socio-economic development in conjunction with effective "people mobilization" work. Border guard posts proactively develop plans to closely monitor their areas, send officers to grassroots levels to gather information; coordinate with local authorities and specialized agencies, organizations, and associations to disseminate legal education to ethnic minorities, ensuring strict adherence to the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, border area agreements and regulations, and the National Border Law.
