The Chieng Khuong border gate holds a crucial position in trade and economic cooperation between Son La province and neighboring provinces of Laos. In recent years, import and export activities through the border gate have seen many positive changes; the volume of transport vehicles and goods cleared through customs has gradually increased. By 2025, the total import and export turnover through the border gate is expected to reach US$8.27 million, contributing to the promotion of border trade development, job creation, and increased local budget revenue.
During the on-site inspection, the Provincial Party Secretary acknowledged the efforts of the functional forces at the Joint Border Control Station in coordinating the management and control of immigration and emigration, import and export, ensuring security and order, and facilitating businesses and people in the border area. Regarding long-term orientation, the Provincial Party Secretary stated that the proposal to upgrade the Chieng Khuong border gate to an international border gate is consistent with approved plans, including the Border Gate Planning on the Vietnam-Laos land border for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Inspecting the ore transshipment and storage area at Chieng Khuong Border Gate, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that local Party committees and authorities closely coordinate with the Provincial Border Guard and relevant units to effectively plan and manage transshipment activities; paying particular attention to environmental protection, harmonizing economic development with ensuring security and order, and stabilizing the lives of people in the border area.
Visiting a citrus fruit cultivation model in Hung Ha village, Chieng Khuong commune, the Provincial Party Secretary highly appreciated the economic efficiency of the model thanks to the application of scientific and technical advancements in production, contributing to improving productivity, quality, and product value. He requested that local Party committees and authorities continue to pay attention to and encourage the replication of effective production models; promote the development of commercial agriculture associated with brand building, and strengthen linkages between production and consumption. Through this, gradually increase people's income and promote sustainable socio-economic development in the border region.
