Amidst the nationwide anticipation of the Lunar New Year 2026 (Year of the Horse), the "Spring Border Guard Program: Warming the Hearts of the People" held in Long Sap commune, Son La province, brought an early spring to the ethnic minority communities in the border region, spreading the spirit of sharing and strengthening the bond between the military and the people in this frontier area of the Fatherland.

The program, organized by the Long Sap International Border Gate Border Guard Station (Son La Provincial Border Guard Command) in coordination with the Party Committee, the government of Long Sap commune, and other participating units, took place over two days, January 17th and 18th, 2026. This is an annual activity with profound political and social significance, contributing to the concretization of the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws on ethnic affairs, social welfare, and building a strong and comprehensive border region.
In his opening remarks, the Political Officer of the Long Sap International Border Gate Border Guard Station emphasized:
“'Springtime Border Guard Activities Warm the Hearts of Local People' is an activity with profound political and social significance, clearly demonstrating the role and responsibility of the Border Guard force in caring for the lives of the people, consolidating national unity, and building a solid 'people's support' – an important foundation for managing and protecting territorial sovereignty and maintaining national border security in the new situation.”
According to the Organizing Committee, the program focuses on vulnerable groups in Long Sap commune. During this event, 158 gifts were distributed to policy beneficiary families, poor and near-poor households, and students in difficult circumstances; while also supporting children in the "Helping Children Go to School - Children Adopted by Border Guard Posts" program and the "Nurturing Green Seeds in the Border Region - Stepping Towards the Future" model.
Besides gift-giving, the program also organized many community-oriented activities, reflecting the unique cultural identity of ethnic groups in the border region, such as making banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), pounding banh day (another type of rice cake), a "zero-cost" stall, and free haircuts by "Border Guard Barbers," creating a warm and friendly atmosphere in the days leading up to Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year).

In particular, within the framework of the program, the Hanoi Medical University Hospital team, in coordination with the military medical unit of the Long Sap International Border Gate Border Guard Station and the commune's health station, organized free medical examinations, health consultations, and medication distribution for approximately 400 people, making a practical contribution to caring for the health of the people in the border area.

Through specific activities, the "Spring Border Guard Campaign to Warm the Hearts of the People" in 2026 continues to affirm the core role of the Border Guard force in mobilizing the masses, consolidating the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the armed forces, thereby building a peaceful, stable, and sustainably developing border region.
