My first impression of fighter Bac Thi Khiem was that of a girl 1.75m tall, with a lovely face and gentle eyes. Hidden behind that feminine appearance was a strong, determined fighter who turned her dream into reality.
Born in 2000 in Muong Gion commune, Quynh Nhai district (now part of Muong Gion commune, province).Son LaBac Thi Khiem's childhood was intertwined with the hardships and difficulties of the people in the Northwest highlands. As the eldest sister in the family, Khiem quickly became aware of her responsibility to her parents and younger siblings. Therefore, sportFor Khiem, it's not just a passion, but also a path to change his life.

| The coaching staff of the Vietnamese taekwondo team celebrates with martial artist Bac Thi Khiem at the 33rd SEA Games. |
At the age of 12, Bac Thi Khiem's talent was discovered. The doors to sports opened, meaning the young girl from the Thai ethnic group had to leave home. Lying in her dorm room at night, homesickness brought tears to Khiem's eyes. But thinking of her older sister's responsibilities and her passion for sports, Khiem told herself she had to be strong.
Since 2015, Khiem has been called up to the Vietnamese national taekwondo team. The training ground has become his second home, where sweat is poured down every day, where his long legs gradually become accustomed to speed, pressure, and even bitter defeats. But it is from these experiences that Khiem's willpower has been forged.
After days of arduous training, glory came continuously to Bac Thi Khiem as a well-deserved reward. At the 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33), Khiem displayed impressive form and convincingly won the gold medal in the women's 67-73kg kumite event. Thus, after three SEA Games (30, 31, and 33), Bac Thi Khiem has won gold medals in all of them. However, the milestone that elevated Bac Thi Khiem's name was winning the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Championships. Defeating Chinese fighter Song Jie, a former Asian Games champion – something that seemed impossible – was spectacularly accomplished by Khiem. Previously, at the 19th Asian Games in 2023, Khiem lost to Song Jie in the semi-finals, settling for a bronze medal.
What's special about Bac Thi Khiem isn't just her physical strength or technique. Khiem always talks about tactics with a serious look in her eyes. Before each match, Khiem and her coaching staff always thoroughly study their opponents to gain more confidence. This serious preparation, knowing herself and her opponent, helps Khiem control the game and turn pressure into strength.
After winning gold medals at regional and continental competitions, Bac Thi Khiem's goal is to change the color of her medal at the 2026 Asian Games and strive to qualify for the 2028 Olympics. This is no easy task, but with the determination of a strong-willed female martial artist and, above all, a Party member, Khiem always sets specific goals and strives to achieve them.
Speaking about martial artist Bac Thi Khiem, Mr. Mui Anh Tuat (Cultural and Sports Center - Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province) proudly stated: "Khiem is a talented martial artist, the national taekwondo champion since 2015. Khiem is not only skilled but also demonstrates good discipline and good conduct in training and daily life."
