The space was built as a vivid glimpse into the cultural life of the Mong people, one of the largest ethnic groups with a long-standing connection to the mountainous region of Son La. Amidst the vibrant spring atmosphere, the booth not only displayed traditional products but also became a cultural exchange point, where visitors could directly experience the depth of the identity of the Northwest region.
Sharing with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Ms. Quang Hanh (Son La province) said:Organizing a Mong ethnic cultural space within the framework of the 2026 Spring Fair is of great significance for promoting local culture. This is an opportunity to introduce characteristic products and traditional customs of the ethnic groups in Son La to friends and visitors from near and far, including international tourists. Through the fair, we hope that visitors will not only purchase products but also gain a better understanding of the life, customs, and cultural values of the local people."
The Mong ethnic cultural space was elaborately decorated, vividly recreating the community life of the people during festivals. Many traditional cultural activities were organized throughout the fair, creating a vibrant and distinctive atmosphere. The cultural programs, featuring folk songs and the resounding sounds of the Mong flute amidst the spring atmosphere, attracted numerous visitors who stopped to enjoy and learn about the culture.
Among the highlights, the Hmong flute dance is considered a special feature, clearly showcasing the cultural beauty and spirit of the Hmong people. This dance is closely associated with the daily life and important festivals of the people, signifying community cohesion and conveying good wishes for the new year. In addition, the "wife abduction" custom, a famous traditional custom of the Hmong people, is also recreated through performances and presentations, helping visitors understand the cultural and humanistic values of this custom more accurately and comprehensively, avoiding biased perceptions.
Matchmaking activities, particularly the pao throwing game, were also organized within the cultural space, vividly recreating the spring festival atmosphere of the Hmong people. This was an opportunity for young men and women to socialize, make friends, and express their feelings, while also providing visitors with an authentic experience of the spiritual life of the mountain people. In particular, the rice cake pounding ritual, considered an indispensable part of the Hmong cultural space at the 2026 Spring Fair, left a strong impression on viewers.
