Song Khua commune in Son La province was formed by merging four communes: Quang Minh, Muong Te, Song Khua, and Lien Hoa. It is a Category III commune with 93% of its villages classified as extremely difficult, and has the largest number of poor households needing assistance to eliminate temporary housing, according to Plan 234/KH-UBND of the Son La Provincial People's Committee.
Between mid-December 2025 and the end of the previous year, with the strong determination of the local Party committee and government, and the consensus of the people, Song Khua commune completed 10 out of 10 new houses, achieving 100% of the plan.
All structures meet the "three solid" standards (solid foundation, solid frame, solid roof), with a minimum area of 30m² and a lifespan of over 20 years. The total funding for this phase is 600 million VND from the "For the Poor" Fund of Son La province.
The new houses handed over just before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse not only provide stable housing for the people of Song Khua commune but also contribute to strengthening the people's firm belief in the social welfare policies of the Party and the State.

Presenting gifts to disadvantaged families in Song Khua commune.
At the house handover ceremony, Mr. Dang Ngoc Hau, Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that with the determination "to leave no one behind," Son La province is accelerating the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, bringing safe and secure homes to disadvantaged families.
The handover of houses to families in Song Khua commune is a testament to the efforts and unity of the entire political system and the local people.
To ensure the program continues to spread and achieve sustainable effectiveness in the coming period, the Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee requested Song Khua commune to continue thoroughly reviewing households still facing housing difficulties in the area; proactively develop a specific plan and roadmap to strive to complete the elimination of the remaining 57 temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households by 2026.
Furthermore, Song Khua commune needs to pay attention to its people. Besides providing housing support, it is necessary to create jobs and increase income for the people. The work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses must go hand in hand with relocating the population, reallocating land to people, and forming resettlement areas to provide safe and secure housing for disadvantaged families.
Departments and agencies need to strengthen guidance, inspection, and supervision, promptly resolving financial and technical issues to ensure project quality and disbursement progress.
The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province also hoped that the people would cherish and preserve their new homes, considering them as motivation to strive in labor and production, stabilize their income, and be determined to rise out of poverty sustainably.
