The Political Commissar of the Son La Provincial Military Command performed the ceremony of draping the national flag over the remains of the heroic martyrs found in Cang Kieng village, Chieng Khoong commune.
Previously, based on information provided by Mr. Luong Van Tui and Mr. Ha Van Pang, both residing in Cang Kieng village, Chieng Khoong commune, the authorities determined that the garden area of Mr. Deo Van Thiem's family was the burial place of the two martyrs. Based on witness information, the Steering Committee for the Search, Collection, and Identification of Martyrsidentity of the remains of the fallen soldierSon La province, in coordination with the Military Command of Chieng Khoong commune, mobilized 30 militia officers and soldiers to cordon off and excavate areas identified as containing the graves of fallen soldiers.
The search process faced many difficulties due to the long time elapsed since the burial, and the changing terrain, landscape, and current state of the area. With a high sense of responsibility and determination, the authorities excavated and collected the remains of two fallen soldiers, including skulls, leg and arm bones, teeth, and related artifacts such as shrapnel.
The Steering Committee for the Search, Collection, and Identification of the Remains of Martyrs in Son La Province has compiled a report on the current situation, collected biological samples for DNA testing, as a basis for identifying the martyrs; and simultaneously organized the handover of the martyrs' remains to the People's Committee of Song Ma Commune for the organization of memorial services and burial according to regulations.
