On October 13th, in Luang Prabang province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the delegation of Son La Provincial Police, led by Major General Nguyen Ngoc Van, Director of Son La Provincial Police, and the delegation of Luang Prabang Provincial Police, led by Colonel Tu Song Patchai, Director of Luang Prabang Provincial Police, held talks on cooperation in ensuring security and order, and border security in 2022, and agreed on directions for coordination in 2023.
Overview of the talks
In recent times, despite the complex developments in the world and the region, especially the Covid-19 pandemic which significantly affected cooperation between the two sides, the Son La Provincial Police of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Luang Prabang Provincial Police of the Lao People's Democratic Republic have made many efforts to continue strengthening coordination, exchanging information, ensuring security and order, preventing and combating crime, preventing and controlling epidemics, and jointly building a peaceful, stable, friendly and developing border. Both sides have jointly assessed the situation and proposed many measures to address issues related to various types of crime, especially drug-related crimes, criminal offenses, human trafficking, and illegal emigration…
Regarding the direction of cooperation in 2023, both sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in ensuring security and order, combating crime; promote the dissemination and education of laws; and create favorable and safe conditions for citizens of both countries to travel for business, visiting relatives, medical treatment, study, and exchange.
The Son La Provincial Police (Socialist Republic of Vietnam) and the Luang Prabang Provincial Police (Lao People's Democratic Republic) signed a memorandum of understanding in 2022.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed on the content of future cooperation and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on ensuring security, order, and border security in 2022.
