Although Thuan Chau district (Son La province) does not share a border with Laos, the relationship between Thuan Chau district (Son La province) and Hua Muong district, Hua Phan province (Lao People's Democratic Republic) has been nurtured over the years through concrete and meaningful actions in many fields, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the good traditional relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
Implementing the cooperation program between Son La province and the provinces of Laos, in 2012, Thuan Chau and Hua Muong districts established a sister-district relationship. The two districts regularly disseminate information to officials, soldiers, and people of all ethnic groups about the special tradition of solidarity and friendship, and the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos; between Son La and Hua Phan provinces in general; and between Thuan Chau and Hua Muong districts in particular. They maintain regular visits by delegations to exchange experiences in various fields; and send congratulatory letters on the occasion of the traditional New Year and National Day of both countries. To strengthen comprehensive cooperation, Thuan Chau district has supported Hua Muong district in educational infrastructure, disease prevention and control, and agricultural production development.

Thuan Chau District donated money and medical equipment to Hua Muong District to combat the Covid-19 epidemic.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuan Chau district, said:From 2019 to the present, Thuan Chau district has coordinated with Hua Muong district to survey and implement a program to support fruit tree development with a total support amount of 1 billion VND, selecting households to participate in the model. At the same time, officials regularly exchange information, provide technical guidance, and help build effective economic development models. In coordination with Ngoc Lan Cooperative in Mai Son district, training sessions were organized, technical transfer was carried out, and guidance and support were provided to participating households to prepare the conditions for planting trees according to the correct season; seedlings and agricultural supplies were provided, including 1,500 seedlings planted on an area of 6 hectares and handed over to 6 households in Muong Pun village, Hua Muong district for care.
Furthermore, from 2012 to the present, Thuan Chau district has supported Hua Muong district in building a two-story, six-classroom school building; providing office equipment; and purchasing equipment for COVID-19 prevention and control... with a total amount exceeding 5 billion VND, contributing to affirming the close relationship and spirit of mutual support and assistance in overcoming difficulties between the two districts. Last July, a delegation from Thuan Chau district visited and worked in Hua Muong district. The two districts exchanged information on socio-economic development and national defense and security. Thuan Chau district provided Hua Muong district with 100 million VND to support socio-economic development.

Through numerous meaningful and practical activities in various fields, these efforts have further strengthened the special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, ensuring that this bond remains ever-lasting and enduring for generations to come…/.
