On May 7th, in Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front solemnly organized the ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).

Attending the commemoration ceremony were: Pham Minh Chinh, Member of the Political Bureau, Prime Minister; Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Acting President; Truong Thi Mai, Member of the Political Bureau, Standing Secretary of the Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Department; Tran Thanh Man, Member of the Political Bureau, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; other members of the Political Bureau; leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; representatives of leaders from ministries, departments, agencies, central and provincial/city organizations; representatives of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Dien Bien Phu soldiers, veterans, former People's Police, former youth volunteers, civilian workers on the front lines, forces participating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the resistance war against French colonialism; along with a large number of people and tourists from all over the country and Dien Bien province.

The commemoration began with an artistic formation performance themed "The Epic of Dien Bien Phu" by artists and soldiers of the Army Ceremonial Regiment; this was followed by drum performances, flag-waving, and dragon dance performances by the police force.

The ceremony began with 21 ceremonial gun salutes set to the national anthem, and during the flag-raising ceremony, Vietnamese Air Force planes carrying the Party flag and the national flag flew over the reviewing stand.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered a speech at the commemoration ceremony.
In his commemorative speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: The historic victory at Dien Bien Phu was a momentous event, not only significant for the Vietnamese revolution, but also becoming an immortal epic that inspired national liberation movements and marked the collapse of old colonialism worldwide. Building on the spirit of the Dien Bien Phu victory, our nation has achieved many great victories, continuing the heroic epic of the Ho Chi Minh era, and achieving glorious feats such as the "Dien Bien Phu in the Air" victory in 1972 and the pinnacle being the Great Spring Victory of 1975 with the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.
Proud of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, of the great President Ho Chi Minh, of the heroic Vietnamese nation with its thousand-year-old civilization, and building upon the spirit of the Dien Bien Phu victory, in the coming time, we pledge to march forward under the glorious banner of the Party, working together in unity, consolidating the great national unity, focusing on building a socialist democracy, building a socialist rule of law state of the people, by the people, and for the people, and building a socialist-oriented market economy; effectively implementing the policy of socio-economic development as the central task; building the Party as the key, personnel work as the "key of keys"; developing culture as the spiritual foundation and internal strength; ensuring national defense and security as crucial and constant, in order to realize the aspiration of building a socialist Vietnam that is increasingly prosperous, democratic, thriving, civilized, and happy...
Representing the Dien Bien Phu veterans, former soldier Pham Duc Cu, former assistant staff officer of Battalion 394, Regiment 367 of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery, proudly stated: "As a soldier who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, and having witnessed firsthand the glorious, arduous, and challenging historical moments of the nation on the Dien Bien Phu front, I am deeply moved to remember the comrades, fellow soldiers, and people who sacrificed themselves to achieve the victory that 'shook the world and resonated across continents.' The war is long over, and we are proud and excited to have contributed our part to making Dien Bien Phu the heroic and beautiful place it is today..."
Representing the youth of the entire nation, Vu Quynh Anh stated: "Every achievement we enjoy today was bought with the blood and sacrifices of our revolutionary predecessors and millions of Vietnamese people. Building on the spirit of the Dien Bien Phu victory, we, the young generation, pledge absolute loyalty to the Party, steadfastly following the revolutionary path chosen by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and our people, ready to go anywhere and do anything the Fatherland needs..."

Immediately following the ceremony, a parade and march took place, with the participation of over 12,000 people. Beginning the parade, a squadron of armed helicopters from the Vietnam Air Force and Air Defense Corps flew over the reviewing stand carrying the Party flag and the national flag. Leading the procession were the national emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a block of Party flags and national flags, a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, and a model of the Dien Bien Phu victory; the parade force consisted of 24 blocks of military, police, and militia units; and the marching force consisted of 9 blocks: veterans, youth volunteers, civilian workers on the front lines, workers, farmers, intellectuals, youth, women, and ethnic groups from the Northwest region…

After the marching contingents passed the reviewing stand and continued along the main streets of Dien Bien Phu city, adorned with flags, flowers, and a large crowd of people and tourists came to watch and cheer, creating a heroic atmosphere, showcasing the forces, affirming the significance, scale, and great historical value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, as well as expressing the determination of the entire nation to realize the aspiration of building a socialist Vietnam that is increasingly prosperous, democratic, thriving, civilized, and happy.
