VOV.VN - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just announced the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage items, including "The Xip Xi Tet ritual of the White Thai people in Quynh Nhai and Phu Yen districts, Son La province".
According to Decision No. 2313/QD-BVHTTDL dated August 9, 2024, the Xip Xi Festival of the White Thai people in Quynh Nhai and Phu Yen districts, Son La province, has been included in the national intangible cultural heritage list, under the category of social customs and beliefs.

Xip Xi means 14 in Thai. The Xip Xi festival is celebrated on the 14th day of the 7th lunar month every year. This is a long-standing ritual of the White Thai people in Son La province, with many unique and meaningful traditional cultural features; it is a day for descendants to honor their ancestors and show filial piety to their parents. It is also an opportunity for adults to show special care and attention to the younger generation. Therefore, in many places, the people also call "Xip Xi" the children's festival.
In recent years, Phu Yen and Quynh Nhai districts in Son La province have organized many activities to revive the Xip Xi Tet ritual and held cultural, artistic, sports, and culinary events... contributing to fostering pride and promoting the cultural traditions of the White Thai people; while also strengthening community bonds among ethnic groups in the mountainous province of Son La - Northwest Vietnam.
