Son La province currently has over 600 preschools, primary and secondary schools, and continuing education centers with nearly 380,000 students.

With a motto of determination, high focus, and persistent implementation of measures and solutions to improve and enhance the quality of education in a substantive, sustainable, and practical manner, the Education and Training sector of Son La province has achieved many remarkable achievements in the period 2020-2024. The results of the high school graduation exam have continuously increased over the past five years, from over 95.7% in 2020 to over 99.8% in 2024; the province is the 12th province nationwide and the 5th among the 14 provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountains to achieve Level 2 universal secondary education standards.

In particular, Son La has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a member of the global learning network; Son La province's education and training sector is now on the world education map alongside the education systems of developed countries, which is a source of pride for Son La province in general and for the Son La education sector in particular.

The 2024-2025 academic year marks the end of the term implementing the Resolution of the 15th Congress of the Son La Provincial Party Committee; it is also the year the 2018 General Education Program is implemented in all grades from 1 to 12, and the first year the High School Graduation Examination is organized according to the 2018 General Education Program. With the theme "Discipline, Responsibility, Innovation, and Improvement of Education and Training Quality," the Son La Provincial Department of Education and Training is determined to continue striving to overcome limitations and shortcomings, and resolutely implement the plan and tasks set for the academic year.

For the high school level, the 2025 High School Graduation Examination will ensure that students complete the program and achieve the best possible results."
