Overview of the Conference.
Currently, Son La province has over 21,000 hectares of coffee, mainly concentrated in Mai Son, Thuan Chau and City districts, with an estimated output of 35,000 - 45,000 tons of coffee beans/year, worth 4,500 - 5,000 billion VND. Currently, the coffee area granted sustainable certifications (RA, 4C, VietGAP) and equivalent to over 19,100 hectares; there are over 1,120 hectares of specialty coffee; there are 2 coffee production areas approved by the Provincial People's Committee for high-tech production areas...
On May 11, 2023, the Provincial Party Standing Committee issued Conclusion No. 863-KL/TU on high-tech coffee production, processing and consumption in Son La province by 2030. The goal is that in the 2023 - 2025 period, the value of coffee production will account for 6-8% of the total production value of the crop sector; by 2025, the whole province will replant 8,000 hectares of coffee; develop 3,900 hectares of specialty coffee; export over 25,000 tons of coffee beans/year; coffee export value reaches nearly 100 million USD... creating jobs and stabilizing income for over 18,000 coffee-growing households. Through review, currently, many coffee areas in the province are old and need to be replanted with new varieties; small-scale processing facilities have not implemented measures to treat wastewater and waste, causing environmental pollution; the linkage between farmers and businesses in production, processing, quality control and trade still has many shortcomings, especially the linkage to develop raw material areas... which has affected the productivity and quality of Son La coffee products.
