(VOV4.VOV.VN) - In Son La province, a seminar was recently held to discuss solutions to improve the quality of education and training between the Department of Education and Training of Son La province and the Departments of Education and Sports of the provinces of Hua Phan, Luang Prabang, Udomxay, Phongsaly, Xieng Khouang, Xay Nha Buly, and Bo Keo (Lao PDR).
Currently, Son La province has 610 kindergartens, general schools, and continuing education schools, with over 375,000 students. In recent years, the Son La Education and Training sector has achieved many outstanding achievements in universalizing education, improving the quality of education, especially the quality of high school graduation exams; building schools that meet national standards; improving the effectiveness and efficiency of State management of education through the application of international management standards, enhancing international integration and winning international quality awards, bringing Son La city to join the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network.

Regarding training Lao students, the Department of Education and Training of Son La province is authorized by the Provincial People's Committee to provide comprehensive advice on training Lao students. From 2001 to present, Son La province has trained nearly 2,300 Lao students to graduate from intermediate, college, university and master's degrees; nearly 4,000 Lao students have been trained in Vietnamese.
In an atmosphere of special solidarity and friendship, the leaders of the Department of Education and Sports of the Northern Lao provinces informed and exchanged the results achieved in the field of education and training. At the same time, they hoped that the Department of Education and Training of Son La province would continue to advise the province, support training in Vietnamese for Lao students studying abroad; train in the use of equipment and experiments for schools; pay attention to and support the training of Lao students studying at universities and graduate schools in Son La; exchange experiences to overcome the situation of high school students dropping out of school to work; policies and improve the quality of teachers; popularize and develop preschool education for 5-year-old children; and eliminate illiteracy.

Mr. Si Von Pheng Mi Xay, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Sports of Udomxay province, Lao PDR said: "After the seminar, we have gained more experience to apply to the development of the education sector of Udomxay province as well as the northern provinces of Laos in general"./.
