(VOV4.VOV.VN) - A seminar was recently held in Son La province to exchange solutions for improving the quality of education and training between the Department of Education and Training of Son La province and the Departments of Education and Sports of the provinces of Hua Phan, Luang Prabang, Oudomxay, Phongsaly, Xieng Khouang, Xay Nha Bu Ly, and Bokeo (Lao People's Democratic Republic).
Currently, Son La province has 610 preschools, primary and secondary schools, and continuing education centers, with over 375,000 students. In recent years, the Son La Department of Education and Training has achieved many outstanding accomplishments in universal education, improving the quality of education, especially the quality of the high school graduation exam; building schools that meet national standards; enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in education through the application of international management standards, strengthening international integration and achieving international quality awards, and bringing Son La city into the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network.

Regarding the training of Lao students, the Son La Department of Education and Training is authorized by the Provincial People's Committee to provide comprehensive advice on the training of Lao students. From 2001 to the present, Son La province has trained nearly 2,300 Lao students who have graduated with intermediate, college, university, and master's degrees; and nearly 4,000 Lao students have received Vietnamese language training.
In an atmosphere of special solidarity and friendship, leaders of the Departments of Education and Sports of the Northern Lao provinces shared information and exchanged achievements in the field of education and training. They also expressed their desire for the Son La Provincial Department of Education and Training to continue advising the province and supporting Vietnamese language training for Lao students; training in the use of equipment and experiments for schools; paying attention to and supporting the training of Lao students studying at universities and postgraduate programs in Son La; exchanging experiences to address the issue of high school students dropping out to work; improving policies and training for teachers; popularizing and developing preschool education for 5-year-old children; and literacy programs.

Mr. Si Von Pheng Mi Xay, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Sports of Udomxay Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, said: "After the seminar, we have gained more experience to apply to the development of the education sector in Udomxay Province as well as in the northern provinces of Laos in general."
