Grasping market demand, Mr. Phan Trung Son's family, Thanh Yen 2 village, Phieng Khoai commune, Yen Chau district, has applied organic farming and fruit tree care methods, bringing in an income of more than a billion VND/year.
Mr. Phan Trung Son, Thanh Yen 2 village, Phieng Khoai commune, Yen Chau district takes care of his family's Tai Nung pear garden.
Taking us on a tour of the 12-hectare orchard, mainly growing crispy persimmons, plums and Tai Nung pears, Mr. Son said: Growing perennial fruit trees, if using pesticides and chemical fertilizers, has many limitations, such as high costs, pesticide residues, affecting the health of consumers and making the soil infertile, plants aging quickly, degenerating, reducing productivity and quality.
In 2022, after attending training courses organized by the District Agricultural Service Center in coordination with the Commune Farmers' Association, Mr. Son's family applied organic farming methods. In addition, he actively visited and learned from models inside and outside the district that have successfully applied this method.
Mr. Son shared: After 2 years of applying organic care techniques to his family's fruit garden, especially with 3 hectares of Tai Nung pears, the results have been outstanding. In 2023, my family harvested over 10 tons, the last crop harvested over 20 tons of fruit, the selling price was 40-60 thousand/kg depending on the type, earning over 1 billion VND. In addition to increasing productivity, I see another outstanding advantage of growing fruit trees using organic methods is protecting the environment, making the soil loose, and limiting erosion.
In addition to pear trees, Mr. Son's family annually harvests 20 tons of crispy persimmons and plums, earning more than 1.5 billion VND; creating regular jobs for 2 local workers, with an income of 8 million VND/person/month. Mr. Son is continuing to invest in building a modern irrigation system and applying organic farming methods, VietGAP standards to all of his family's fruit trees.
Mr. Bui Van Quan, Vice Chairman of Phieng Khoai Commune People's Committee, said: Not only focusing on developing the family economy, Mr. Phan Trung Son is also willing to share experiences and techniques in caring for fruit trees and how to make organic fertilizers with the villagers, to improve productivity and product quality. In 2023, Mr. Son was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in labor and production.
