Wide cracks, over a meter wide and hundreds of meters long, have appeared in Ngam village, Song Pe commune, Bac Yen district.
Due to the influence of the circulation of Typhoon No. 3 (YAGI) in 2024, from the night of September 6th to September 11th, Muong La district experienced heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 80 to 335 mm, with some areas receiving very high amounts such as Pu Danh (630.4 mm) and Ngoc Chien (503.8 mm). The heavy rain and landslides resulted in one person missing, approximately 90 houses damaged, and serious damage to infrastructure and agricultural production.
In Ngam village, Song Pe commune, Bac Yen district, since 2018, cracks have appeared in the hillside above the residential area, posing a risk of landslides and directly affecting 88 households in the village. Due to the effects of the remnants of typhoon No. 3, which caused heavy and prolonged rainfall, the cracks have been developing rapidly, with water appearing on the subsided surface in many places. The affected area now includes more households (108 households/524 people), and the level of danger is increasing.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the People's Committees of Muong La and Bac Yen districts to closely monitor weather forecasts and warnings regarding natural disasters in order to take appropriate response measures to minimize damage caused by natural disasters. Local leaders, agencies, organizations, and units were assigned to be on duty 24/7 during peak periods of rain and flooding.
