(cand.com.vn) - After months of flooding, as the water receded, along with other functional forces, more than 40 members of the Youth Union of the Son La City Police Department mobilized to support the people of Phieng Nghe village (Chieng Den commune, Son La city) in cleaning up the environment, stabilizing their lives and production after the floods.
Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 2 from the end of July until now, Son La City has experienced prolonged heavy rain, causing flooding and landslides in many areas, resulting in significant property damage for residents. In particular, in Phieng Nghe village, Chieng Den commune, Son La City, more than 40 households have been severely flooded.

To ensure the long-term stability of the households, the Son La Provincial People's Committee established an inter-agency task force comprising the Departments of Industry and Trade, Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Police, and the City People's Committee to survey and assess the overall situation of flooded areas in the city. Following the survey and assessment by the consulting unit, on the afternoon of September 18th, the construction unit carried out one drilling operation to clear the caster tunnels at the flooded area in Phieng Nghe village.

Along with nearly 500 members from other forces, the police officers of Son La City Police Department assisted Phieng Nghe village in general cleaning of the cultural center, schools, village roads, alleys, bridges, culverts, and drainage ditches; assisted families in disinfecting their homes; disseminated information and guided people on food safety and hygiene to prevent the outbreak of diseases in humans and livestock after the natural disaster; and assisted households in rearranging their houses, moving assets from temporary residences back to their original homes, and reinforcing livestock shelters.

In the long term, on September 11, 2024, the People's Committee of Son La province issued Decision No. 1883/QD-UBND on the implementation of 5 urgent public investment projects to mitigate the consequences of natural disasters and floods in 2024. Among them, the project to address flooding in Phieng Nghe village, Chieng Den commune, Son La city, will involve constructing flood drainage tunnels to urgently address the flooding situation affecting 64 households in Phieng Nghe, Bom Nam, and Nam Nieu villages. The total investment is estimated at 41 billion VND, funded by public investment; the investor is the Management Board of Investment Projects for Agricultural and Rural Development Works, with an implementation period of 2 years (2024-2025).
Currently, after nearly two months of flooding, in addition to Phiêng Nghè village, two other villages in Chiềng Đen commune, Nam Giáng and Nam Niệu, still have nearly 50 households affected by flooding. After completing flood drainage in Phiêng Nghè village, the Provincial People's Committee assigned Sơn La City to continue coordinating with the construction unit to carry out flood drainage drilling in these two areas.
