Currently, Chiềng Cơi ward has 8 hamlets/villages, 1,627 households, and over 6,820 inhabitants from 11 ethnic groups living together, primarily the Thái and Kinh people. Ms. Hà Thị Ảnh, a cultural and social affairs officer in Chiềng Cơi ward, stated: To preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Thái ethnic group and to spread the vibrant and widespread arts and culture movement, the ward has established three Thái ethnic cultural clubs in Chậu Cọ village, Coóng Nọi village, and Hamlet 1, attracting 150 members who regularly participate in cultural activities and exchanges during holidays and festivals. Simultaneously, they research, collect, preserve, promote, and publicize the cultural identity of the Thái ethnic group.
The Thai ethnic cultural club of Chau Co village, comprising 64 members, consists of artisans and performers living, studying, working, and residing in the ward who possess talent and ability to compose, stage, and perform artistic programs, and who voluntarily join the club.
Mr. Leo Dung Nhi, the Club's Chairman, shared: Currently, the Club has three performing arts teams from three generations, regularly practicing and reviving performing arts programs; sports activities and traditional games like "to ma le" and "to phai" are organized three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays... Members are always enthusiastic about participating in performing arts at major events organized by the City and the province, such as participating in the Xoe dance celebrating the Party and the Lunar New Year, and the ceremony honoring Son La City for being recognized as a "Global Learning City".
Besides promoting cultural and artistic development, the club has also collected more than 70 artifacts, including tools, folk games, musical instruments, and brocade weaving looms for display; and maintains a Thai language class for adults, scheduled to conclude this October. Ms. Lo Thi Mai Cuong, a member of the club, shared: "Every week, members of the Thai Culture Club of Chau Co village gather at the village cultural center for activities, including playing folk games, practicing singing and dancing, and teaching the Thai language... The establishment of the club helps people to interact, learn, preserve, and pass on the precious cultural heritage of the Thai ethnic people."
Building on the achievements already made, the People's Committee of Chiềng Cơi Ward continues to promote and encourage key figures, artisans, and those with talent and expertise in Thai ethnic culture, arts, customs, and traditions, especially the younger generation, to participate in clubs to actively promote the cultural and artistic movement; directing clubs to collect artifacts and tools of the Thai ethnic group to add to the exhibition hall. It also encourages officials, civil servants, workers, and residents in the ward to participate in folk dance competitions, the "Thai Xòe Dance Art" competition, and the "Dance of Unity" competition organized annually by the City...
