Unique Pung Hieng Festival of Dao Tien Moc Chau people
Pung Hieng is a major ritual of the clan, also considered the biggest festival in the Dao Tien community in Moc Chau. Pung Hieng festival is maintained by some Dao Tien clans in a traditional way, held periodically every 3-4 years and lasting from 4-6 days on the occasion of Lunar New Year. The festival originates from the story: In the past, the ancestors of the Tang, Ban, and Dang clans in Moc Chau were very rich and had a prosperous life. They believed that they had such a life thanks to the favor of nature and the blessings of the gods. Therefore, they are always ready to help the people around them. On the occasion of Tet, these clans organize a big feast and invite relatives and neighbors to join in the fun, thank their ancestors and gods; and pray for a more favorable business in the new year.
The Festival performance program mobilized the participation of more than 50 artisans, shamans, clan leaders, and mass art groups from Pieng Sang and Suoi Khem villages, Phieng Luong commune. The festival was restored and fully reenacted with traditional rituals, including: New Year's Eve Ceremony, Ceremony to welcome supernatural beings to the Festival, Army Worship Ceremony (to drive away all evil spirits and demons, sweep away all bad things from the house, send off the old year with bad luck and misfortune), Army Worship Ceremony (to welcome good things from the new year into the house), Thanksgiving Ceremony, Harvest Prayer Ceremony and the Autumn Worship Ceremony to end the festival. The ceremonies were organized by Clan Leaders and experienced shamans. After the Ceremony, the Festival was held, with the village art troupes and delegates joining in a vibrant dance to the sound of bells, drums, and gongs.
The Festival performance program mobilized the participation of more than 50 artisans.
The performance of the Pung Hieng Festival of the Dao Tien Moc Chau people is an activity within Project 6 "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period 2021 - 2030.
