Currently, Mai Son district has 8,569 hectares of coffee trees, of which approximately 7,600 hectares are in production, an increase of 19.1% compared to 2023. The People's Committee of Mai Son district has issued a plan to implement the coffee replanting project.coffeeDuring the period 2021-2025, the goal is to replant, graft, and prune 2,300 hectares of coffee plantations by 2025, concentrated in 11 communes. To date, farmers in these communes have replanted, grafted, and pruned 1,400 hectares of coffee, achieving 60% of the plan.
The district is also simultaneously building stable and sustainable production chains between businesses, cooperatives, and coffee-producing households, improving the quality and value of coffee in the market.
In addition, Mai Son district has implemented the project "Supporting the development of coffee production linked in value chains on an inter-communal scale under the National Target Program for New Rural Development." This project has supported 291 households in 6 villages across 2 communes, Chieng Ban and Chieng Chung, with a total support budget of over 1.7 billion VND; established 6 cooperatives operating in the coffee production sector, proactively linking with member households and farmers to expand production scale; and promoted trade, advertising, and product introduction, as well as developing OCOP products.
Ms. Cam Thi Mon, Director of Aratay Coffee Cooperative in Chieng Chung commune, said: The cooperative has 14 members, cultivating over 200 hectares of coffee. In addition, the cooperative has recruited more than 100 satellite households in Chieng Chung and Muong Chanh communes, supplying fresh coffee beans, covering a total area of over 300 hectares. Currently, Aratay Coffee Cooperative offers four high-quality coffee products: Natural green coffee beans, Honey green coffee beans, Natural ground and whole bean coffee, and Honey ground and whole bean coffee. The cooperative's specialty coffee lines are consistently highly rated by partners for their packaging and product quality.
Currently, Mai Son is continuing to propose various solutions to support farmers and cooperatives in developing coffee production and processing, establishing cooperatives that link production in a concentrated manner along the value chain, contributing to promoting economic development and increasing income for coffee growers, and gradually raising the position of Mai Son coffee in particular and Son La coffee in general on the Vietnamese coffee map.
