Sixty years ago, on August 17, 1964, the Government Council issued Decision No. 128-QD/CP, separating Phu Yen district in Nghia Lo province into two districts: Phu Yen and Bac Yen. On September 29, 1964, the Standing Committee of the Nghia Lo Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 67-QN/TU establishing the Provisional Executive Committee of Bac Yen district. On October 20, 1964, Bac Yen district officially came into operation.
