Speaking at the opening ceremony of the podcast production skills training for reporters, editors, technicians of the Northwest Regional Office and reporters of Son La Provincial Radio and Television Station and Son La Newspaper, which took place from October 22 to 24, Mr. Pham Manh Hung, Deputy General Director of VOV, shared about the goal of becoming the leading podcast producer of Voice of Vietnam.
Inevitable trend
According to Mr. Pham Manh Hung, with the rapid development of technology, the number of people listening to audio content globally, including the Vietnamese market, is increasing, but the needs of listeners are also changing from passive to active.
Today, there is no longer a monopoly on the press, opportunities are shared equally, and even independent content producers can attract a large audience thanks to social media platforms and cheap equipment.

Changes in audience listening behavior combined with fierce market competition have created a huge challenge for the radio industry, platforms such as AM, FM, and even the internet alone can hardly satisfy modern listeners.
“The emergence and rapid development of podcasts in the digital age is an opportunity to reach the radio audience through the smart mobile devices they are using,” Mr. Pham Manh Hung shared.
“With the foundation of Voice of Vietnam and its existing advantages, turning this ambition into reality is completely feasible,” said Mr. Hung.

Through the efforts in the podcast race, Mr. Pham Manh Hung believes that VOV will reap three benefits, including: optimizing the production capacity of the team of reporters, editors, and technicians for not only Vietnamese programs, but also foreign languages and ethnic minority languages; being in line with global trends and promoting VOV's core advantages as an agency specializing in broadcasting in the context of digital transformation.
5 requirements
According to VOV Deputy General Director, podcasts are popular because they are not restricted by duration or broadcast time. Along with that, the application is multi-disciplinary, promoting creativity and personal style of the program maker.
“However, because podcasts are very different from traditional radio, in certain cases it is necessary to have specialized products for podcasts, then process them for broadcasting on other platforms,” Mr. Pham Manh Hung emphasized.
