Accordingly, Decision No. 1008 of the Ministry of Construction recognized Moc Chau urban area, Son La province as meeting the criteria of a type IV urban area (covering the entire existing Moc Chau district, area of 107,209.47 hectares, population of 148,259 people, of which the planned inner-city area is 15,826.62 hectares, population of 83,520 people, including the entire area and population of Moc Chau town, the entire population and part of the area of Moc Chau Farm town and part of the area and population of Phieng Luong, Muong Sang, Dong Sang communes).
Decision No. 1009 of the Ministry of Construction recognizes the area planned to establish a ward in Moc Chau urban area (the scope of Moc Chau urban area includes the entire Moc Chau district, Son La province) meeting the standards of urban infrastructure development level applicable to wards in type IV urban areas, including: The area planned to establish Moc Ly ward (including part of Moc Chau town, area 7.03 km2, population 8,546 people); the area planned to establish Moc Son ward (including part of Moc Chau town, area 7.22 km2, population 10,337 people); the area planned to establish Binh Minh ward (including part of Moc Chau Farm town, area 16.85 km2, population 8,667 people); the area planned to establish Thao Nguyen ward (including part of Moc Chau Farm town, area 17.02 km2, population 14,803 people); the area planned to establish Co Do ward (including part of Moc Chau Farm town, area 36.07 km2, population 10,030 people); the area planned to establish Van Son ward (including part of Moc Chau Farm town, area 6.19 km2, population 5,556 people and part of Phieng Luong commune, area 16.57 km2, population 4,798 people); the area planned to establish Dong Sang ward (including part of Dong Sang commune, area 30.66 km2, population 9,288 people); the area planned to establish Muong Sang ward (including part of Muong Sang commune, area 20.66 km2, population 11,495 people).
Moc Chau is recognized as meeting the criteria of a type IV urban area and the area planned to establish a ward in Moc Chau urban area meets the standards of urban infrastructure development level, which will be the basis and premise for becoming a town according to Resolution No. 10-NQ/TU dated May 13, 2021 of the Standing Committee of Son La Provincial Party Committee on building and developing Moc Chau district into a town by 2025. This is a step forward in improving the quality of life for people; creating a solid foundation for developing Moc Chau into a modern urban area, playing an important role in the socio-economic development strategy of Son La province and the Northwest region.
