During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh paid special attention to the role of artists and writers. He said: "Culture and art are a battlefront, and artists and writers are soldiers on that battlefront."

Bearing in mind President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, the artists and writers of Son La always remain loyal, steadfast, united, and enthusiastic in their creative work in literature and art; contributing to preserving and promoting the essence of traditional culture, serving well the political tasks and literary and artistic life of the ethnic people, and the task of protecting the ideological foundation of the Party.
Over 45 years of establishment and development, the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts (VHNT) has continuously grown and expanded, becoming a gathering place for artists and writers in Son La. Currently, the association has more than 270 members, operating in 13 affiliated branches in many fields, such as: literature, literary criticism, photography, fine arts, ethnic language poetry, and the collection and research of folk art and performing arts... The artists and writers always carry within them the passion to create excellent and unique literary and artistic works with humanistic messages, inspiring a better life.
Artist Le Chuong, Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations, said: The Standing Committee of the Association always focuses on doing a good job in political and ideological work for all members; especially the effective implementation of Directive No. 46-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on combating the infiltration of harmful cultural products that destroy social morality, in conjunction with promoting the "struggle against erroneous viewpoints in literature and art".

With the motto "using beauty to overcome ugliness," through these works of art and literature, it vividly reflects all aspects of social life; combats and refutes erroneous and hostile viewpoints; and protects the Party's ideological foundation. At the same time, it discovers and encourages new elements and exemplary models in all fields of life; and disseminates the results of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style, as well as the great national unity and the close relationship between the Party, the State, and the people.
The association effectively organizes activities for creating artistic and journalistic works, especially on the theme of "studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh," as well as emulation movements and socio-economic development tasks in the locality. Since the beginning of the year, the association has organized five comprehensive creative camps covering various literary and artistic disciplines, with over 300 works by members from these fields. In addition to organizing creative camps within the province, the association also arranges field trips for artists and writers to many provinces and regions across the country to learn and exchange creative experiences.
With passionate and creative work, the artists and writers of various ethnic groups have brought to the public high-quality and distinctive literary and artistic works from Son La, which are both topical and imbued with profound philosophical insights. These works of art and literature have made a significant contribution to preserving and disseminating the traditional cultural and artistic values of Son La's ethnic groups; and to promoting the image of the people and land of Son La, rich in revolutionary traditions, history, and culture, to a wide audience both within and outside the province.

Ms. Luong My Hanh, a member of the Folk Arts Branch of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations, is known as a sharp writer with gentle, profound poems that vividly portray the land, culture, and people of Son La. Recently, her short story "Evening Falling on the River," about courageous police officers ready to sacrifice themselves in the fight against drugs in the Northwest region, won the A prize at the writing competition and music and literature workshop with the theme "Mobile Police - A Steel Shield Protecting the Peace of Life" in 2024.
Ms. Hanh shared: Contemporary life demands that artists possess strong character; artists need to stay close to life, closely follow the changing realities of the country, harmoniously combine the spirit of artist-soldier, and consciously contribute to the cause of national literature and art to create valuable literary and artistic works, making a significant contribution to building and developing Vietnamese culture and people, meeting the requirements of sustainable national development.
Upholding the glorious mission of "soldiers on the ideological and cultural front," the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts continues to "ignite the flame" in artists and writers, clearly understanding the role and responsibility of Vietnamese revolutionary literature and art.
The team of artists and writers continues to hone their sharp writing skills, creating persuasive and highly engaging literary and artistic works that actively and effectively contribute to protecting the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints. This is also how literature and art become increasingly deeply rooted in life, becoming the spiritual foundation of society, an intrinsic strength, and a soft power in the cause of building, developing, and protecting the homeland.
