(baovanhoa.vn) - In order to effectively implement Project 6 on "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development", Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently organized a training course on research, preservation and promotion of intangible cultural values of ethnic groups at risk of extinction in Bac Yen area.
The training course contributes to the effective implementation of Project 6 in Bac Yen area.
Mr. Thao A Mua, Vice Chairman of Bac Yen District People's Committee, said that in recent times, along with economic development, Bac Yen district has focused on protecting, preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, in which many folk games of ethnic groups in Bac Yen have been preserved by all levels, sectors and the community.
Folk games are inherently recreational activities originating from history, labor and cultural life, created by ethnic communities and passed down through many generations. Many games have been developed into sports included in the list of competitions at all levels, contributing significantly to preserving and developing the cultural beauty of the nation, encouraging the movement of practicing and competing in physical education and sports among the people.
Bac Yen is a mountainous district of Son La province, where 7 ethnic groups live together: Mong, Thai, Muong, Dao, Kho Mu, Kinh and Tay. Each ethnic group has diverse and rich traditional customs and practices.
In particular, during Tet holidays and traditional festivals, traditional sports competitions have become an indispensable part of the villages. Not only do they offer exciting competitions, but they also bring laughter to the audience and the people who come to watch and cheer.
Like the folk games of other ethnic groups in Bac Yen, the Mong people have many folk games such as Pao throwing, stick pushing, Dragon hatching eggs, Tu lu, crossbow shooting... which always attract a large number of people to participate, and are preserved as a unique cultural feature of the Mong people here.
Among them, the Tu Lu and crossbow shooting games of the Mong ethnic group have become popular games. These are also ethnic sports that help Mong boys demonstrate their strength, dexterity, quickness, and good judgment. From adults to children, everyone can participate, creating a joyful and united atmosphere among members of the village community, contributing to spreading the traditional beauty of the Mong people.
Nowadays, Tu lu, crossbow shooting of the Mong ethnic group has become a favorite game of many people, attracting many other ethnic groups to come and learn. At cultural events in Bac Yen, Tu lu, crossbow shooting as well as other folk games are introduced to tourists from near and far.

Mr. Nguyen The Cong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province, said that in order to effectively implement Project 6 on "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Son La province in 2024. Recently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province coordinated with the People's Committee of Bac Yen district to organize a training course on research, preservation and promotion of intangible cultural values of ethnic groups at risk of extinction in Bac Yen. The training course had the participation of 50 students who are lovers of sports and folk games of the Mong ethnic group in Bac Yen.
During the training, trainees were informed about the role and significance of preserving and promoting the good intangible cultural values of ethnic groups, including the Tu Lu and crossbow sports of the Mong people. Trainees were able to exchange skills on how to play Tu Lu and crossbow shooting of the Mong people, how to make crossbows, crossbow arrows and Tu Lu balls and practice competing in these two sports. Trainees were also informed about preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development with useful, practical topics suitable for the locality.
In the coming time, to effectively preserve and promote folk games of ethnic groups, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La, Bac Yen district and all levels and sectors will continue to pay attention to investing in facilities and equipment for cultural houses in residential areas and training grounds. Focus on promoting the core role of village chiefs, prestigious people in the community, sports and physical training cores, and effectively applying cultural institutions at the grassroots level.
At the same time, actively restore and preserve traditional rituals and folk games during holidays, anniversaries, and traditional days of the country, province and locality to create a joyful and exciting atmosphere for the people, while creating highlights and contributing to the sustainable development of community tourism.
