Over the years, under the leadership and guidance of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, the Lao Ministry of Public Security, and the Party committees and authorities of the provinces, the Son La Provincial Police and the police forces of the three provinces have strengthened their relationship and close cooperation in ensuring security and order, proactively exchanging information, and coordinating the resolution of cases, especially in crime prevention and drug control, contributing positively to building and consolidating the special friendship and fine traditions of solidarity.

A memorandum of cooperation on ensuring security and order in 2024 was signed by the Son La Provincial Police and the Bokeo Provincial Police (Lao People's Democratic Republic).

In particular, from 2021 to the present, the Son La Provincial Police have completed the construction and handover of 54 village police stations along the Vietnam-Laos border in both Hua Phan and Luang Prabang provinces, as directed by the two Ministries (Vietnam Ministry of Public Security - Laos Ministry of Public Security) and in accordance with the agreement signed between the Son La Provincial Police and the Lao police.

To determine future operational directions, the Son La Provincial Police and the police forces of three neighboring Lao provinces have agreed on several key points, including: Regularly monitoring and promptly exchanging information on the situation, conspiracies, and activities of hostile forces exploiting ethnic issues in the "peaceful evolution" movement; combating activities that exploit religious, democratic, and human rights issues to undermine the revolution, disrupt public order and security, and ensure border security; and proactively ensuring public order and security in all situations. Continuing to effectively implement the cooperation plan to combat various types of crime, with a focus on combating transnational drug trafficking rings and groups; strengthening the detection and apprehension of wanted individuals; and continuing to thoroughly and effectively implement the signed cooperation agreement between the two BLO Offices.
