(baosonla.vn) - On November 21, the Border Guard Command of Son La province held talks with the Police of Luang Prabang province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, on cooperation in ensuring security and coordinating efforts to combat drug trafficking and cross-border crime.

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the meeting.
Over the past period, both sides have done a good job advising competent authorities on the effective implementation of policies and plans to maintain political security and social order in the border area; focusing on coordination between forces of both sides in ensuring border security; and coordinating the fight against various types of crimes related to the border. They have proactively exchanged information and intelligence on political security and social order; focusing on criminal activities, especially drug-related crimes across the border. In 2024, the two sides exchanged 12 pieces of information on political security; the Son La Provincial Border Guard Command directed the Muong Leo Border Guard Station to coordinate with the Phon Thong District Police, Luang Prabang Province (Laos) to arrest one case involving one drug offender, seizing 2,158 synthetic drug pills and over 22 million Lao Kip.
The coordinated efforts in combating these cases have strengthened the trust of the people on both sides of the border in the functional forces. At the same time, it demonstrates the correctness of the policy of cooperation in crime prevention and control between Vietnam and Laos; further affirming the solidarity and close relationship between the forces of both sides in the fight against crime, especially cross-border drug trafficking...
In the coming period, both sides will continue to strengthen coordination in combating the conspiracies of hostile and reactionary forces working against the revolutions of Laos and Vietnam; effectively resolve incidents related to the two borders; enhance propaganda and education to raise awareness among the people on both sides of the border about the guidelines, policies, and laws of the two states; strengthen coordination in patrolling and controlling, promptly detecting and preventing infiltration and collusion by hostile and reactionary forces in Laos and Vietnam; combating various types of crime; illegal immigration and emigration across the border...
