On November 21, 2024, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi, along with the General Director of the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) Nguyen Duc Thien, held a working session with the People's Committee of Son La province. The meeting focused on evaluating the results of ensuring electricity supply to serve socio-economic development and social welfare in the area, and also discussed the implementation of Resolution No. 42-NQ/TW of the Central Party Committee and Plan No. 19-KH/TW of the Politburo.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of several relevant departments and agencies.

In order to ensure electricity supply, the province's current electricity output is...Son LaElectricity is primarily supplied from hydropower sources, with a very small portion coming from rooftop solar and biomass power. The province has 60 operational hydropower plants with a total capacity of over 3,790 MW, accounting for 16.86% of the country's total hydropower capacity. It is projected that by 2024, the total electricity production in the province will reach approximately 14 billion kWh. Son La province, in particular, receives electricity from the national grid via two 220kV substations and distributes it through eight 110kV substations to 12 districts and cities. It is also linked to the 110kV grids of Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, and Dien Bien provinces, along with the support of 21 small hydropower plants connected to the medium-voltage grid, ensuring a stable electricity supply.

Since 2021, Son La province has implemented the "Rural Electrification Sub-Project from the National Grid, 2021-2025," with a total investment of 420 billion VND, aiming to provide safe electricity to approximately 13,500 households. As a result, the percentage of villages and hamlets with electricity has increased from 98.21% (2021) to 99.91% (2024). Currently, only two hamlets remain without electricity: Pha Din (Mai Son district) and Ta Lat (Song Ma district). The People's Committee of Son La province has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for investment from the Vietnam-EU Sustainable Energy Transition Program.
Speaking at the meeting, General Director Nguyen Duc Thien stated: The CorporationNorthern Power CorporationHe emphasized the need to continue efforts to ensure a stable electricity supply, contributing positively to the sustainable development of Son La province. He also proposed that Son La province closely coordinate in planning, land clearance, and the development of power grid infrastructure, as well as create favorable conditions for the implementation of investment projects to meet the increasing electricity demand and ensure long-term energy security.

On the same day, General Director Nguyen Duc Thien and the specialized departments held a working session with Son La Power Company (PC Son La) to review the results of production and business activities in 2024 and the plan for 2025.
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Tran Duy Trinh - Director of Son La Power Company - affirmed that the company always ensures safe and stable electricity supply to 12 districts and cities in the area, even during natural disasters, storms, and floods. The company has effectively implemented digital transformation solutions, improving customer service quality and reliability in electricity supply.
At the meeting, the General Director of EVNNPC acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Son La Power Company in ensuring stable electricity supply, meeting the needs of socio-economic development and daily life of people in the province.

General Director Nguyen Duc Thien also requested Son La Power Company to implement several key tasks that need to be focused on in the coming period. In particular, special attention should be paid to solutions aimed at successfully completing the production and business tasks for 2024. The company needs to develop plans and coordinate closely with relevant departments and agencies to ensure safe and stable electricity supply for the Party Congress at all levels, while also preparing for electricity supply during the hot season of 2025 and subsequent years.
