(kinhtedothi.vn) - With its vast fruit-growing area and significant fruit production, Muong La district, Son La province, is focusing on developing a local mango brand.
To date, Muong La district has 10 OCOP products, including 3 four-star OCOP products and 7 three-star OCOP products. In 2024, the district will continue to support the development of 4 new OCOP products.
A prominent example in the OCOP product development movement is Ta Bu commune, known for its delicious and high-quality local mango variety. In 2021, Ta Bu commune received support for a pilot project to graft and improve the local mango variety. As a result, the improved mango variety yielded significantly higher productivity and quality. Based on the advantages of each locality, the district has supported cooperatives and people in building OCOP product registration dossiers, developing and registering trademarks, digital transformation, website development, and registering barcodes and traceability labels.
In November 2022, Mr. Lo Van Hinh from Ket village mobilized households in the commune to establish the Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative, linking together to build a brand for the local specialty product. To date, the cooperative has 7 main members and 10 satellite members, cultivating and caring for 17 hectares of mangoes, including 10 hectares of local mangoes and 7 hectares of Taiwanese mangoes.
The Cooperative's Board of Directors has developed a production plan; promoted and encouraged members to apply scientific and technological advancements to the process of caring for, harvesting, and preserving products. Members actively learn from and visit successful models to gain more experience in production development. The Cooperative also receives guidance from specialized agencies of the district on production according to VietGAP standards; support in building and designing packaging, labels, and traceability stamps for products...
Mr. Lo Van Hinh stated that, due to production adhering to VietGAP standards, in April 2024, the cooperative's local mangoes were recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. This serves as motivation for members to actively apply scientific and technical advancements, improving productivity and mango quality. During the recent mango season, the cooperative sold over 25 tons of fruit, earning nearly 400 million VND.
The local mango product of Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product in April 2024. Thanks to strict adherence to the production process, Ta Bu mangoes are of high quality, do not use chemical pesticides, and ensure food safety and hygiene. With its distinctive flavor and attractive appearance, Ta Bu mangoes are popular in the market and sell at a high price.
Besides mangoes, Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative also collaborates with businesses to conduct trial plantings of 5 hectares of Queen pineapples and other fruit trees. The cooperative aims to produce organically, improve productivity and product quality, and establish stable markets for its products.

The success in developing the Muong La mango brand in Ta Bu commune is a testament to the local government's attention, the people's initiative, and the efforts of cooperatives in building and enhancing the value of local agricultural products. This also serves as motivation for Muong La to continue focusing on developing the fruit industry, building brands for agricultural products, and contributing to the sustainable development of the rural economy.
