On November 25th, the 16th regular talks between the Border Guard of Son La and Dien Bien provinces and the Military Command of Phongsaly and Luang Prabang provinces of the Lao People's Democratic Republic took place in Phongsaly province.

In 2024, the Border Guard Command of Son La and Dien Bien provinces, along with border protection forces of Phongsaly and Luang Prabang provinces, consistently maintained and effectively implemented the two signed legal documents on the border and the memorandums of understanding from the talks; closely coordinated the implementation of measures to manage and protect the common border; maintained coordinated management, handling, and timely resolution of issues and events related to the border and in the fight against various types of crimes… Actively coordinated in disseminating information and mobilizing people in border areas to comply well with the Protocol and Agreement on the Regulations for the Management of the Land Border between Vietnam and Laos, as well as the laws of each side. They maintained a good special friendship, promptly exchanged information on issues related to border management and protection, ensured security and order in the border area, contributing to building a peaceful, stable, cooperative, and developing border.
Since the beginning of the year, the Muong Leo Border Guard Station, Son La Provincial Border Guard Command, has coordinated with Border Guard Company 161, Luang Prabang Provincial Military Command, to hold two regular briefings, 20 hotline information exchanges, and seven bilateral patrols. The Dien Bien Provincial Border Guard Command has held seven talks, 29 unscheduled exchanges, and 121 hotline exchanges; border guard stations have coordinated with border guard companies in Phongsaly and Luang Prabang provinces to conduct 20 bilateral patrols.
The two sides' forces coordinated to organize 158 propaganda and education sessions for people in the border region, with 1,757 participants. They detected and apprehended 5 cases involving 6 Lao citizens related to drugs, seizing 66,000 synthetic drug pills, 35 grams of heroin, one muzzle-loading rifle, 10 kg of opium, and other related evidence.
During the talks, both sides determined that, in the coming period, they will continue to strengthen the dissemination of the Party and State's policies and laws of both sides. They will regularly inform each other about the security and order situation in the border area. They will strengthen the direction of border protection forces at the station, post, and company/platoon levels to maintain regular meetings, briefings, and exchanges of experience and information on border management and protection. They will also strengthen friendly exchanges on the occasion of traditional holidays, anniversaries of the establishment of the forces, and other important holidays of both sides.
