According to Resolution No. 1280/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued on November 14, 2024, Moc Chau district was officially upgraded to a town, with a natural area of ​​1,072.09 km² and a population of over 148,000 people. Moc Chau town will comprise 15 administrative units at the commune level: 8 wards and 7 communes, promising a dynamic and modern urban appearance in the heart of the plateau.

The People's Committee of Son La province recently held a meeting and agreed to organize the ceremony to announce the establishment of Moc Chau town on January 18, 2025.

To prepare for this momentous event, an important meeting chaired by Comrade Le Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, was held. The meeting focused on finalizing the organizational aspects of the ceremony announcing the establishment of Moc Chau town, including the entire program, script, spectacular artistic performances, a dazzling fireworks display, meticulous reception arrangements, and a plan for widespread public awareness campaigns.

The official announcement ceremony for the establishment of Moc Chau town is scheduled to take place at 8 PM on January 18, 2025, at 8/5 Square, Moc Chau town. The program will be grandly designed, combining a solemn ceremony with a vibrant celebration, highlighted by a dazzling fireworks display.
