(baosonla.vn) - On December 4th, a delegation led by Mr. Hiroshi Fukada, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, worked with Son La province on cooperation in disaster warning and prevention. Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of several provincial departments and agencies.

On behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, happily welcomed the former Ambassador and the delegation to visit and work in Son La. He also informed them of some outstanding achievements in politics, socio-economics, national defense, security, and international cooperation of the province, especially the management and operation of hydropower plants and solutions for dam safety.

The former Ambassador shared that he is currently assisting in the deployment of work in Vietnam at a Japanese meteorological information company. The company is using radar equipment equipped with information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to obtain accurate hourly weather forecasts in specific areas over short distances, helping to make early evacuation warnings necessary to protect people's lives and minimize damage from natural disasters. The former Ambassador hoped that Son La province would provide support to help the company deploy meteorological information solutions in Son La, a pilot area in Northern Vietnam, contributing to the province's disaster prevention and control efforts in the future.

On behalf of the provincial leadership, the Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee unanimously supported the policy of selecting Son La as the location for installing radar warning equipment. The province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to directly advise research units on implementing the solution in the province; assigned the Son La Hydropower Company as the pilot site for deploying the monitoring equipment. Assigned the Provincial Meteorological and Hydrological Station to research the location for installing the equipment, review and evaluate its operation, and monitor its performance to minimize damage caused by natural disasters in the province.
