(vov.gov.vn) - Song Ma district has a large fruit-growing area in the province, with 10,877 hectares. At this time, many types of fruit trees are beginning their harvest season. Local authorities and farmers are actively implementing plans to connect and expand domestic and export markets.
Over the years, the district's fruit products have gained a reputation among consumers, expanding their market to many provinces and cities nationwide and for export. To achieve these positive results, the district has assisted and supported cooperatives and households in maintaining stable production and securing markets, especially overseas markets. The district has directed the Agricultural Service Center to strengthen the management of safe production processes, such as VietGAP and GlobalGAP, and improve product quality towards organic farming practices.
To date, the district has coordinated with the Post-Import Plant Quarantine Center I, Department of Plant Protection, to evaluate and grant 48 planting area codes, covering a total area of 481.7 hectares and a production of 4,799 tons. Of these, 12 codes are for longan cultivation exported to the US market; 23 codes are for longan and mango cultivation exported to the Chinese market; and 13 codes are for longan cultivation exported to Australia and New Zealand. The district has also focused on building safe fruit growing areas and developing supply chains. From the beginning of the year until now, the total consumption of fruit in the district has reached over 7,820 tons (equivalent to 13.7% of the total annual production); the estimated value is over 65 billion VND. Of this, 400 tons of mangoes were exported to the Chinese market. Several fruit products in their main harvest season, such as mangoes, bananas, pineapples, and early-ripening longan, are largely purchased by businesses and cooperatives to supply supermarkets and clean fruit stores in provinces and cities nationwide, as well as for export to the Chinese market. Currently, with the main longan harvest season approaching, the district is directing specialized agencies and the People's Committees of communes to coordinate with cooperatives and businesses to maintain traditional trading partners and promote the district's agricultural products.
With the involvement of Party committees and authorities, and the proactive efforts of cooperatives and farmers, Song Ma district will strive to achieve and surpass the plan for the consumption and export of agricultural products in 2024, continuing to promote the district's fruit brand further.
