In December, the northern mountainous provinces enter winter with their own unique beauty. Visiting Moc Chau at this time, tourists should explore the tea plantations, mustard flower fields, or Hang Tau Valley to admire the natural scenery. The following locations are recommended by our reporter.VnExpressAlong with travel blogger Quang Kien, a local, he offered suggestions.
Moc Chau Tea Hill
The tea plantation is located opposite the Moc Chau Tea Company, about 2 km from the center of Moc Chau Farm Town. Here, rows of Shan Tuyet tea trees, over 60 years old, stand side-by-side across an area of more than 4,000 hectares.
From December to February, people prune the old tea branches to encourage new buds to grow in early summer. During this time, the entire tea hill is a deep green. Each row of tea plants is neatly trimmed, looking from afar like a vast green carpet.
As the sun rose higher, a thin layer of mist still hung over the tea hills, creating an ethereal scene.

The tea hills in Moc Chau are open to visitors for free sightseeing and photography. Tourists can ride motorbikes along the trails to explore all the tea plantation hills and find many different photo opportunities.
Visitors can buy various types of tea to enjoy or give as gifts, such as hundred-year-old white tea, Dinh Xuan tea, and oolong tea, with prices ranging from a few hundred thousand to several million dong per kilogram.

Na Ka and Mu Nau plum orchards
According to the district's information portal, Moc Chau has approximately 1,300 hectares of plum orchards. The plum blossom season in Moc Chau usually lasts about a month, but the blooming time varies depending on the weather and humidity. In December, many plum orchards have already begun to bloom, so visitors should call the orchard owners before visiting to get updates on the flowering situation.
The two valleys with the largest plum orchards and also the most visited when coming to Moc Chau are Na Ka and Mu Nau. Of these, Na Ka is easier to access, with plum orchards stretching along both sides of the road, suitable for tourists to enjoy the scenery.

For those who enjoy adventure, visiting Mu Nau Valley to admire the scenery of rocky mountains covered in white plum blossoms is a great suggestion. The road to Mu Nau has many dangerous mountain passes and is not suitable for inexperienced drivers. However, there are motorbike taxi services to take visitors into the valley for convenient exploration.
The ideal time to photograph plum orchards is from 9 am to 4 pm. Visitors should avoid going too early as the mist may not have dissipated and going too late as the sun will have set.

rapeseed flower garden
The canola flower hill area in Chieng Xuan commune (pictured), located nearly 30 km from the center of Moc Chau town, is a large area where the flowers bloom profusely from the beginning of December.
The route to Chiềng Xuân mustard hill is suitable for off-road vehicles and motorbikes because it's a dirt road with many steep and bumpy slopes. From National Highway 6, tourists can head towards the pine forest - Bản Cóc - Chiềng Xuân, a total distance of about 15 km, but it's difficult to navigate. Alternatively, if traveling via Dải Yếm waterfall - Chiềng Ve farm - Chiềng Sơn border guard post - Chiềng Xuân, the distance is about 30 km, takes more time, but the road is wider.

Besides Chieng Xuan, tourists can admire white mustard flowers in Pa Phach village, Na Ka valley, Bo Bun village, and the Moc Chau tea hill area (pictured), but the flower fields here are smaller in size.
When visiting and taking photos in the cabbage garden, visitors should be careful not to walk on the rows, as this may damage the crops and plants of the local people.
Visitors can also take photos with lantana flowers, purslane flowers, poinsettias, and sunflowers in the meadows or along the roadside leading to the rapeseed garden.

Hang Tau
Hang Tau, located in Ta So 1 village, Chieng Hac commune, 18 km from the town, is considered one of the most pristine places in the Moc Chau plateau.
Over the past two years, the Hmong people in Hang Tau have gradually shifted their livelihoods from agriculture to tourism. Visitors pay an entrance fee of 30,000 VND per person. The road from Ta So 1 village to Hang Tau valley is about 7 km long, a rough, rocky dirt road. Visitors who are not confident in driving can hire a motorbike taxi for 150,000 VND for a round trip.

In winter, the H'Mông village of Hang Táu presents a picturesque landscape with green meadows and plum blossom gardens alongside cornfields. Visitors can experience the local way of life, learn about traditional embroidery on skirts, dig for bamboo shoots, catch chickens, cook, and enjoy corn wine.

Pha Luong Peak
Located 30 km from Moc Chau town, Pha Luong peak lies on the Vietnam-Laos border, rising over 2,000 meters and considered the highest point in Moc Chau.
Visitors can experience trekking to the summit here; the trek from Pha Luong border guard station to the summit takes about 3-4 hours. In December, the weather in Moc Chau is dry, and many people choose to trek Pha Luong to have the opportunity to admire the peach and plum blossoms blooming in the forest.
The route to Pha Luong mountain offers many beautiful sights but is also dangerous due to its steep rocky slopes and narrow, winding trails through mountain gorges. Visitors need to research and prepare thoroughly before climbing.

The breathtaking 360-degree view of the floating sea of clouds is a highlight when reaching the summit of Pha Luong on clear days. Visitors should observe safety precautions when playing on the rocky outcrops and avoid taking excessive risks for photography.
Moc Chau is located nearly 200 km from Hanoi. The travel time is approximately 4-5 hours. If traveling by motorbike, visitors should take the old National Highway 6 because of the beautiful scenery along the way. If traveling by bus, choose routes to Son La from My Dinh or Yen Nghia bus stations, then get off in Moc Chau and rent a motorbike to explore the tourist attractions.
The average temperature in Moc Chau in December is around 15-17 degrees Celsius, so visitors should bring warm clothing.
