After the reorganization, Son La will have 12 district-level administrative units and 200 commune-level administrative units.
Son La province is actively implementing the National Assembly's Resolution on the reorganization of district and commune-level administrative units, giai đoạn 2023 – 2025.
According to Resolution No. 1280 dated November 14, 2024, of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the rearrangement of district and commune-level administrative units in Son La province for the period 2023-2025, in addition to establishing Moc Chau town and rearranging its wards and communes, Son La province will also rearrange some communes in Thuan Chau, Phu Yen, Yen Chau, Song Ma, and Quynh Nhai districts.
Yen Chau town will be expanded by incorporating a portion of the natural area and the entire population of Vieng Lan commune, and a portion of the natural area and population of Sap Vat commune, Yen Chau district.
In Thuan Chau district, a portion of the natural area and population of Chieng Ly commune and a portion of the natural area and population of Phong Lang commune will be adjusted and merged into Thuan Chau town; Phong Ly commune will be established based on the merger of a portion of the natural area and population of Chieng Bom commune, the entire natural area and population of Chieng Ly commune, and the entire natural area and population of Phong Lang commune after the adjustment.
In Phu Yen district, Quang Huy town was established by merging the entire natural area and population of Phu Yen town and a portion of the natural area and population of Huy Bac, Quang Huy, and Huy Ha communes; merging the entire natural area and population of Huy Bac commune after adjustments as per regulations into Huy Ha commune; and simultaneously merging the entire natural area and population of Quang Huy commune after adjustments as per regulations into Suoi To commune.
Yen Chau District will adjust a portion of the natural area and the entire population of Vieng Lan commune, and a portion of the natural area and population of Sapp Vat commune to be incorporated into Yen Chau town; adjust a portion of the natural area of Vieng Lan commune to be incorporated into Sapp Vat commune; and simultaneously, incorporate the entire natural area of Vieng Lan commune, after the adjustment as prescribed, into Chieng Pan commune.
In Song Ma district, the resolution stipulates the adjustment of a portion of the natural area and population size of Na Nghiu commune to be incorporated into Song Ma town. In Quynh Nhai district, the resolution establishes Muong Giang town, based on the entire natural area and population size of Muong Giang commune…
Thus, after the reorganization, Son La will have 200 commune-level administrative units, including 177 communes, 15 wards, and 8 towns (a reduction of 4 commune-level administrative units compared to the current number).
According to Mr. Le Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, after the reorganization, Son La has 12 district-level administrative units, including 10 districts, 1 town, 1 city, and 200 commune-level administrative units.
To prepare for the announcement ceremony of Resolution No. 1280, scheduled to take place next January, the People's Committee of Son La province recently issued a decision on the establishment of working groups for the ceremony and assigned specific tasks to each group. Three Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee have been assigned as group leaders, including: Mr. Le Hong Minh as the Group Leader for content and external relations; Mr. Dang Ngoc Hau as the Group Leader for finance, protocol, and logistics; and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong as the Group Leader for security, order, and traffic.
The working groups will perform tasks such as: Developing detailed plans, scripts, and programs for activities; Publicizing, introducing, and promoting the image of Son La province and its people in general, and Moc Chau district in particular, to a wide audience of domestic and international tourists; Developing plans and establishing a reception team to welcome delegates attending the ceremony; Coordinating with relevant forces to ensure security and order in the area; Coordinating the timely implementation of immigration procedures for international delegations through border gates according to regulations...
