Son La province is actively implementing the National Assembly's Resolution on the arrangement of administrative units at district and commune levels for the 2023-2025 period.

According to Resolution No. 1280 dated November 14, 2024 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Son La province in the 2023-2025 period, in addition to establishing Moc Chau town and rearranging wards and communes, Son La province also rearranges a number of communes in Thuan Chau, Phu Yen, Yen Chau, Song Ma and Quynh Nhai districts.

Yen Chau town will be expanded on the basis of merging part of the natural area and the entire population of Vieng Lan commune and part of the natural area and population of Sap Vat commune, Yen Chau district.

In Thuan Chau district, adjust part of the natural area and population size of Chieng Ly commune and part of the natural area and population size of Phong Lang commune to merge into Thuan Chau town; Establish Phong Ly commune on the basis of merging part of the natural area and population size of Chieng Bom commune, the entire natural area and population size of Chieng Ly commune and the entire natural area and population size of Phong Lang commune after adjustment.

In Phu Yen district, Quang Huy town is established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of Phu Yen town and part of the natural area and population of Huy Bac, Quang Huy and Huy Ha communes; Merging the entire natural area and population of Huy Bac commune after adjustment according to regulations into Huy Ha commune; At the same time, merging the entire natural area and population of Quang Huy commune after adjustment according to regulations into Suoi To commune.

Yen Chau district will adjust a part of the natural area and the entire population of Vieng Lan commune, a part of the natural area and the population of Sap Vat commune to merge into Yen Chau town; Adjust a part of the natural area of ​​Vieng Lan commune to merge into Sap Vat commune; at the same time, merge the entire natural area of ​​Vieng Lan commune after adjustment according to regulations into Chieng Pan commune.

In Song Ma district, the Resolution determined to adjust part of the natural area and population size of Na Nghiu commune to merge into Song Ma town. In Quynh Nhai district, Muong Giang town was established under Quynh Nhai district on the basis of the entire natural area and population size of Muong Giang commune...

Thus, after the arrangement, Son La will have 200 commune-level administrative units, including 177 communes, 15 wards and 08 towns (4 commune-level administrative units less than present).

Mr. Le Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee, said that after the arrangement, Son La has 12 district-level administrative units, including 10 districts, 01 town, 01 city and 200 commune-level administrative units.

In preparation for the Announcement Ceremony of Resolution No. 1280 scheduled to take place next January, the People's Committee of Son La province has recently issued a decision on the establishment of Working Groups to assist in the Announcement Ceremony and assign specific tasks to each Group. 3 Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee were assigned as Heads of 3 Groups, including: Mr. Le Hong Minh as Head of the Working Group on Content and External Affairs; Mr. Dang Ngoc Hau as Head of the Working Group on Finance, Reception, Logistics; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong as Head of the Working Group on Security, Order, and Traffic.

The Working Groups will carry out tasks such as: Developing plans, scenarios, and detailed programs for activities; Propagating, introducing, and promoting the image of the land and people of Son La in general and Moc Chau district in particular to a large number of people and domestic and international tourists; Developing plans, establishing a reception team, welcoming delegates to the ceremony's activities; Coordinating with relevant forces to deploy security and order assurance work in the area; Coordinating to promptly carry out exit and entry procedures for international delegations through the border gate according to regulations....

Resolution No. 1280/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated November 14, 2024 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Son La province for the 2023-2025 period takes effect from February 1, 2025.
