To develop unique tourism products for the province, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop unique, distinctive, and professional tourism products, create new products, and refresh existing tourism products to attract tourists.

Over the past period, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, tourism experts, travel companies, and the People's Committees of districts and cities, has conducted surveys to assess the current state of tourism resources, potential, and strengths of each locality. This has guided localities in developing unique, distinctive, and professional tourism products, creating new products, and revitalizing existing ones to attract domestic and foreign tourists to Son La. The departments and localities have formed working groups to conduct surveys, assessments, and evaluations of the conditions for recognizing tourist areas and sites. Son La province has recognized five tourist areas and sites that meet the requirements of the Tourism Law, including: Ban Ang Pine Forest Tourist Area (Moc Chau district); Dai Yem Waterfall Tourist Site (Moc Chau district); Pha Din Top Tourist Site (Thuan Chau district); Golden Forest Tourist Site (Son La city); and Hang Mieng Temple Tourist Site (Van Ho district).
In addition, the province is focusing on developing tourism products associated with preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, such as: Establishing folk art troupes to perform folk songs, folk dances, and traditional musical instruments in Bon village, Quynh Nhai district; Ta Xua village, Bac Yen district; Hua Tat village, Van Ho district; Ta So village, Moc Chau district; and Noong Duc village, Son La city. Developing products featuring excerpts from traditional ethnic festivals to meet the research and experiential needs of tourists: Kin Pang Then Festival, Quynh Nhai district; Het Cha Festival, Moc Chau district; Hoa Ban Festival, Van Ho district; and Muong La district's New Rice Festival. Implementing the project "Building a model to improve livelihoods through introducing agricultural tourism to ethnic minority villages in the mountainous regions of Vietnam" in Bo village, Son La city; and collaborating with the GREAT Project to implement a community tourism model in Ta So and Vat villages, Moc Chau district.
Hanoi Tourism Corporation (Hanoitourist) has sent tourism experts to support Son La province in researching and identifying tourism resources, potential, and strengths to focus on developing unique tourism products in Ban Kha, Sap Vat commune, Yen Chau district; and developing unique tourism products at the Son La Prison National Special Monument to improve the quality and value of tourism products and attract tourists to Son La.
The province is also focusing on implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program to affirm the origin, source, and quality of products, thereby stimulating demand from tourists. Districts and cities are focusing on developing unique and innovative tourism products, such as: Moc Chau district developing the Ta So community tourism village; the pedestrian street - night market, Ban Doi community tourism village, and Na Sang tourism village. Mai Son district is putting the Co Noi Crossroads historical site into operation to link with tourism development. Muong La district is developing the product "Son La Hydropower Tourism - The largest project in Southeast Asia," and developing community tourism in Ngoc Chien commune. Quynh Nhai district is developing ecological tourism around the reservoir; experiential tourism by Quynh Nhai Ecological Tourism Cooperative, Ban Bon Community Tourism Cooperative; Linh Son Thuy Tu spiritual and cultural tourism area and Nang Han Temple, the statue of Quan The Am Bodhisattva; the statue of Amitabha Buddha…
In 2022, Son La province focused on investing in and developing three unique, distinctive, and professional new tourism products for tourists: Bach Long Glass Bridge, Nordic Village, and the pedestrian street - night market in Moc Chau National Tourist Area. These tourism products have a wide reach, attracting more domestic and international tourists to Son La, encouraging them to stay longer, and significantly contributing to achieving the province's 2022 tourism target.
