On October 14, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Decision 1201/QD-TTg approving the planning of border gates on the Vietnam - Laos land border for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. In which, Son La province will have 01 pair of newly opened border gates: Huoi La (Son La) - Long Nhan (Luong Pha Bang) and upgrade 01 pair of international border gates: Chieng Khuong (Son La) - Ban Dan (Hua Phan).
According to the Prime Minister's decision, the planning scope of border gates on the Vietnam - Laos land border includes the provinces: Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Kon Tum.
Accordingly, in the period of 2021 - 2030, 06 international border gates, 08 main border gates and 11 secondary border gates will be opened and upgraded. Son La province will have 01 pair of newly opened secondary border gates: Huoi La (Son La) - Long Nhan (Luong Pha Bang). It is expected that by 2030, the Vietnam - Laos border will have 46 border gates, including 15 international border gates, 10 main border gates and 21 secondary border gates.
Vision to 2050: Open and upgrade 06 international border gates, 10 main border gates and 02 secondary border gates. Son La province will have 01 pair of border gates upgraded to international border gates: Chieng Khuong (Son La) - Ban Dan (Hua Phan). It is expected that there will be 49 border gates on the Vietnam - Laos border, including 21 international border gates, 15 main border gates and 13 secondary border gates.
According to the planning, the orientation for investment, upgrading and expanding infrastructure and technical equipment serving border gate activities is: Gradually completing the traffic infrastructure connecting the border gate with the inland, connecting with the border gate on the other side of the border and traffic in the border gate area and investing in modern technical equipment, meeting the standards prescribed in Decree No. 34/2023/ND-CP dated June 16, 2023 of the Government amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 112/2012/ND-CP dated November 21, 2014 of the Government regulating the management of land border gates.
The Decision also clearly states that when planning the border gate area, it is necessary to arrange a joint working area for state management agencies at the border gate, an area for warehouses and yards serving the work of gathering, checking and supervising import and export goods at border gates; arrange land locations in the border gate area to ensure conditions for customs inspection and supervision such as places for gathering, checking and supervising import and export goods at the border gate to meet the work of state management of customs and ensure trade facilitation; arrange locations for installing equipment of immigration, customs and quarantine agencies at the border gate area, meeting the requirements of inspection, supervision and management of import and export goods, means of entry and exit and implementing prevention, suppression and combat against smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods across the border...
