On December 25th, the People's Committee of Son La province held a conference to summarize agricultural and rural development in 2024 and to implement tasks for 2025. Attending the conference were: Mr. Cha A Cua, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of Son La; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province; and leaders of departments, agencies, and the People's Committees of districts and cities.
2024 marks the fourth year that Son La province has been implementing the tasks of agricultural and rural development according to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 15th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025. In the context of complex and unpredictable natural disasters, epidemics, and climate change; the impact of El-Nino, prolonged heatwaves, etc., have created difficulties, challenges, and opportunities for agricultural and rural development…
However, thanks to the efforts of the entire political system and the consensus and support of the people of all ethnic groups in the province, difficulties have been promptly and effectively overcome, and the potential and advantages in the field have been initially exploited and developed well, in conjunction with solutions for investment promotion, administrative procedure reform, strengthening propaganda, guidance, support, and expanding and improving the infrastructure system serving production, processing, and preservation.

The agricultural sector in Son La province continues to implement restructuring towards commodity production, applying high technology, improving productivity, quality, and increasing product value. The province has 82,626 hectares of fruit trees and hawthorn trees, with an estimated output of 375,665 tons and an estimated value of 5,386.7 billion VND. By the end of 2024, there will be 188 OCOP products (an increase of 34 products compared to 2023); 9 high-tech agricultural zones (an increase of 4 zones compared to 2023); support for maintaining and developing 308 safe agricultural and aquatic food supply chains (an increase of 28 chains compared to 2023); 29 agricultural and aquatic products granted protection certificates by the Intellectual Property Office (an increase of 2 products compared to 2023), and 2 products granted protection certificates abroad.

The area of crops applying good agricultural production practices such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and equivalent standards is 5,596 hectares; the area of coffee applying 4C, UTZ, and equivalent standards is 19,121 hectares; the area of water-saving irrigation is 3,210 hectares; and the area of greenhouses and net houses is 115 hectares. 74 communes have achieved new rural standards, an increase of 9 communes compared to 2023; 11 communes have achieved advanced new rural standards, an increase of 3 communes compared to 2023.
In fulfilling its tasks for 2025, the entire sector will continue to organize and implement, with a focus on key areas and effectively, the policies and guidelines of the Central Government and the province on the development of agriculture, farmers, and rural areas. The goal is to develop an efficient and sustainable agricultural sector oriented towards ecology, applying advanced science and technology, and improving quality and added value.
Building modern rural areas in conjunction with urbanization; creating breakthroughs in research and application of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation; training human resources in agriculture and rural areas; striving for a 4.9% increase in the total product of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector in the province compared to 2024.

Developing agriculture in a sustainable direction.
Speaking at the conference, the Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee directed the Agriculture sector to focus on effectively implementing the organizational restructuring according to the Provincial Party Committee's conclusions. He emphasized the need to arrange and allocate personnel in the sector to ensure quality, according to job positions, and to successfully complete assigned tasks. He also stressed the importance of continuing to achieve the targets and tasks assigned for 2025.

Effectively build and develop concentrated raw material areas, synchronize mechanization, and enhance the processing and preservation capacity of agricultural products through linkage models. Focus on transforming the mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economics, from single-sector development to cooperation and multi-sector development; promote the integration of multiple values in agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products; and shift from agricultural supply chains to the development of industry chains.

At the same time, we will continue to attract investors from within and outside the province to invest in the production, processing, and consumption of the province's agricultural products, with a focus on attracting investment projects in agriculture and rural areas.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province awarded Certificates of Merit to 3 collectives and 5 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Businesses, cooperatives, households and farmers in Son La province excelling in agricultural production and business" in 2024.
