Son La continues to restructure agriculture 

On December 25, the People's Committee of Son La province held a conference to review agricultural and rural development in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025. Attending the conference were comrades: Cha A Cua, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Son La province; Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province; leaders of departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of districts and cities.

2024 is the fourth year that Son La province has implemented the task of developing agriculture and rural areas according to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 15th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term. In the context of natural disasters, epidemics, and climate change with complicated and unpredictable developments; the impact of El-Nino, prolonged heat waves... have caused difficulties, challenges as well as opportunities for agricultural and rural development...

However, with the efforts of the entire political system and the consensus of the people of all ethnic groups in the province, difficulties have been promptly and effectively overcome, initially exploiting and promoting the potentials and advantages in the field, associated with solutions on investment promotion, administrative procedure reform, strengthening propaganda, guidance, support, expanding and perfecting the infrastructure system serving production, processing and preservation.

Son La province's agricultural sector continues to restructure towards commodity production, applying high technology, improving productivity, quality and increasing product value. The whole province has 82,626 hectares of fruit trees and hawthorn trees, with an estimated output of 375,665 tons; the estimated value is 5,386.7 billion VND. By the end of 2024, there will be 188 OCOP products (an increase of 34 products compared to 2023); there will be 9 high-tech agricultural zones (an increase of 4 zones compared to 2023); support for maintaining and developing 308 safe agricultural and aquatic food supply chains (an increase of 28 chains compared to 2023); 29 agricultural and aquatic products will be granted protection certificates by the Department of Intellectual Property (an increase of 2 products compared to 2023) and 2 products will be granted protection certificates abroad.

The area of ​​crops applying VietGAP, GlobalGAP and equivalent good agricultural practices is 5,596 hectares; the area of ​​coffee applying 4C, UTZ and equivalent standards is 19,121 hectares; the area of ​​water-saving irrigation is 3,210 hectares; the area of ​​net houses and greenhouses is 115 hectares. There are 74 communes meeting new rural standards, an increase of 9 communes compared to 2023; there are 11 communes meeting advanced new rural standards, an increase of 3 communes compared to 2023.

To carry out the tasks of 2025, the whole sector will continue to organize and effectively implement the policies of the Central Government and the province on agricultural, farmer and rural development. Develop effective and sustainable agriculture in an ecological direction, apply advanced science and technology, improve quality and added value.

Building rural areas in a modern direction associated with urbanization; creating breakthroughs in research, application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation; training human resources in agriculture and rural areas, striving for the total product of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the province to increase by 4.9% compared to 2024.

Sustainable agricultural development

Speaking at the conference, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province requested the agricultural sector to focus on implementing well the work of reorganizing the apparatus according to the Conclusion of the Provincial Party Committee. Arrange and assign human resources to ensure quality, according to the correct job position, and complete assigned tasks well. Continue to successfully implement the targets and assigned tasks in 2025.

Building and effectively developing concentrated raw material areas, synchronous mechanization, improving processing and preservation capacity of agricultural products according to linkage models. Focusing on transforming from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economic thinking, from single-sector development to multi-sector cooperation and development; promoting multi-value integration in agricultural, forestry and fishery products; shifting from agricultural product supply chains to developing industry chains.

At the same time, continue to attract domestic and foreign investors to invest in production, processing and consumption of agricultural products of the province, focusing on attracting investment projects in agriculture and rural areas.
