On January 7th, the Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized the opening ceremony of the Traditional Sports Competition, celebrating the Party and the Lunar New Year of the Snake in Son La province in 2025.

The competition attracted over 200 athletes from 8 sports delegations representing districts, cities, and Tay Bac University. The athletes registered to compete in 43 events for men, women, and mixed teams across the following disciplines: tug-of-war, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, throwing the ball, stilt walking, tu lu, and to ma le.
The tournament took place from January 7th to 10th, with the following events held at Northwest Square, Son La City: stick pushing, tug-of-war, ball throwing, stilt walking, tu lu, and tó má lẹ; and crossbow shooting at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center.
This traditional sports competition is held annually to promote the "National Movement for Physical Training Following the Example of the Great President Ho Chi Minh." It also serves as an opportunity to select outstanding athletes to participate in the 10th National Sports Games in 2026. Following the opening ceremony, the athletes competed in stick pushing, crossbow shooting, and tug-of-war.
